This position is open to current Colorado residents only.

Located within the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS), the Civil and Forensic Mental Health (CFMH) is comprised of the two state inpatient acute-care psychiatric hospitals, Forensic Services, Mental Health Transitional Living Homes, Adolescent Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF), as well as all of the critical units that enable the work of the hospitals and other Divisions, which include: financial services, information management, Medicare/Medicaid and HIPAA compliance, hospital safety and security, and the CMHIP police.
The program this position works within Outpatient Services and will support individuals in the program who will be transferred from the department's designated treatment locations from county jails in the State of Colorado, as well as from the Colorado Mental Health Institute in Pueblo (CMHHIP), the Colorado Mental Health Institute in Ft. Logan (CMHHIFL), to private hospital locations for inpatient Civil Commitment.
Description of Job
This position is remote. The work location will be your home address, with on-location work and travel for in-person meetings primarily in the Denver-metro area.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Responsible for representing the CDHS and the Civil and Forensic Mental Health Services in the evaluation of individuals who may need certification and applying for certification, including transfer and management of certification requests to support individuals in the State Mental Health Hospitals, in jails, and other settings transfer to private civil inpatient beds through a contracted provider.
  • Uses clinical and administrative skills to review existing and prior evaluations and other collateral information to determine the individual's opined eligibility for civil certification under 27-65 C.R.S. and to then address the initiation and/or transfer of the civil certification to CDHS and/or the inpatient contractor or acute care psychiatric hospital to facilitate this transfer.
  • Requires the ability to make judgments based on psychological evaluations and collateral information in overseeing and managing civil certification processes, as well as the ability to evaluate an individual for danger to self, danger to others, and grave disability.
  • Requires the ability to document all evaluations and complete short-term certification paperwork.
  • Support the Civil Diversion program with subject matter expertise, informing team leadership and OCFMH leadership on key processes, areas of improvement, barriers, and supporting continuous quality improvement as both a sole contributor and subject matter expert.

Current, valid licensure as a Psychologist from the Colorado State Board of Psychologist Examiners

One (1) year of experience as a licensed psychologist or permitted psychologist candidate

CDHS Selection Process Explanation:
Employment history is calculated on a full-time basis (40/hrs per week). Part-time employment is calculated on a prorated basis to determine qualifications.
