Job Description:

Summary of the CI/CD DevOps Engineer

We are seeking a DevOps Engineer to design, build, and operate the CI/CD pipelines, build systems, and release automation that power our cloud-first, SaaS-based product portfolio. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on turning manual, legacy release processes into automated, secure, and repeatable delivery workflows.

The ideal candidate is a strong individual contributor with deep practical expertise in modern CI/CD tooling, Infrastructure-as-Code, containerization, and cloud-native automation. You will work closely with development teams to reduce build friction, harden pipelines, and shorten the path from code commit to production.

Experience working in regulated environments such as healthcare, HIPAA, SOC 2, or NIST is preferred.

The salary range for this position is $110,000 - $165,000 per year DOE. Employment visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Key Responsibilities

CI/CD Pipeline Engineering
  • Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or similar platforms.

  • Implement pipeline-as-code, reusable deployment templates, and standardized build patterns that engineering teams can adopt with minimal friction.

  • Automate build validation, unit and smoke test execution, artifact versioning, and quality gates within pipelines.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve build failures, pipeline performance issues, and flaky automation across distributed engineering teams.

  • Continuously optimize pipeline speed, reliability, and cost.

Build & Artifact Management
  • Own build system configuration, dependency management, and artifact repositories, ensuring builds are reproducible and traceable.

  • Implement versioning strategies, artifact promotion workflows, and retention policies across environments.

  • Maintain container image build processes using Docker, including base image management and image scanning.

  • Ensure build infrastructure is scalable, observable, and resilient for large distributed SaaS engineering teams.

Release Automation & Environment Support
  • Automate deployment workflows across development, test, staging, UAT, and production environments, including environment promotion and rollback procedures.

  • Implement progressive delivery mechanisms such as feature flags, canary releases, blue/green deployments, and automated release gates.

  • Build automated smoke testing, deployment validation, and post-release verification into release workflows.

  • Support release execution for multi-service, multi-environment, and multi-tenant SaaS deployments.

  • Improve tooling that gives teams visibility into release status, build versions, and deployment dependencies.

Security & Compliance Automation
  • Integrate DevSecOps tooling into pipelines, including static analysis, dynamic testing, dependency scanning, secrets management, and vulnerability detection.

  • Implement software supply chain controls such as artifact signing, access governance, approval workflows, and secure pipeline design.

  • Ensure builds and releases are auditable and traceable in line with SOC 2, HIPAA, NIST, or similar frameworks.

  • Remediate pipeline security findings and keep build tooling patched and compliant.

Observability & Operational Support
  • Instrument build and release systems with metrics, logging, and alerting using platforms such as Dynatrace, Datadog, Splunk, Prometheus, or Grafana.

  • Maintain operational runbooks and playbooks for build and release activities, and participate in incident response for delivery-related issues.

  • Use pipeline and deployment data to identify bottlenecks, reduce failure patterns, and improve delivery performance.

  • Monitor and optimize the cost and utilization of build infrastructure and automation platforms.

Required Qualifications
  • 5–10 years of hands-on experience in build engineering, release engineering, DevOps, platform engineering, or cloud engineering.

  • Deep, practical expertise with CI/CD tooling such as GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, or comparable platforms.

  • Strong experience with Infrastructure-as-Code and automation technologies such as Terraform, ARM/Bicep, Ansible, PowerShell, or similar tools.

  • Solid working knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.

  • Strong experience with cloud platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure; AWS or Google Cloud experience is also valuable.

  • Proficiency in scripting and automation languages such as PowerShell, Bash, Python, or similar.

  • Experience with build systems, dependency management, artifact repositories, and versioning strategies in large-scale SaaS environments.

  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex build, deployment, and environment issues independently.

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills for working with distributed development, QA, security, and operations teams.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in regulated environments such as healthcare, HIPAA, SOC 2, NIST, or similar compliance-driven industries.

  • Experience building or contributing to internal developer platforms or self-service engineering capabilities.

  • Familiarity with feature management and progressive delivery tooling such as LaunchDarkly or similar platforms.

  • Experience with observability platforms such as Dynatrace, Datadog, Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, or similar tools.

  • Experience integrating security controls, compliance validation, and software supply chain protection into CI/CD pipelines.

  • Background using AI-assisted development, code review, pipeline optimization, or automation tools to improve engineering productivity.

Key Success Metrics
  • Reduced build failures, pipeline flakiness, and release-related incidents.

  • Faster build and pipeline execution times with improved reliability.

  • Increased automation coverage across build, deployment, validation, and rollback workflows.

  • Adoption of reusable pipeline templates and pipeline-as-code practices by engineering teams.

  • Improved security posture within pipelines, including vulnerability detection, secrets management, and artifact integrity.
