Job Responsibilities

The Associate Vice President of Student Services (AVPSS) serves as the College's Chief Student Services Officer (CSSO) and provides strategic leadership for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of comprehensive, data-informed student services across the institution. The CSSO is responsible for advancing the College's metric-driven institutional plans by developing and monitoring performance indicators that measure progress toward enrollment, engagement, retention, and completion goals. As a member of the President's Cabinet, the CSSO spearheads efforts to recruit, enroll, retain, and support students throughout the full student lifecycle. This includes developing and implementing strategic initiatives through outreach and relationship-building efforts that strengthen awareness, access, and engagement. The CSSO uses research, analytics, and best practices to inform decision-making and to design innovative programs and services that maximize student success.

Student Services Leadership & Operations - Provides departmental oversight for key student service areas, including Admissions, Outreach, Registrar, Student Success, and Compliance. Manages daily operations of assigned areas, ensuring effective planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of recruitment, enrollment, and student support services. Collaborates with internal stakeholders to develop, implement, and assess annual recruitment, admissions, advising, and student services strategies, goals, and procedures. Ensures student-centered service delivery that supports access, persistence, and completion. Assists in establishing student services-related policies and procedures and ensures consistent implementation and compliance. Ensures adherence to applicable federal, state, and institutional regulations governing student services and enrollment activities.

Enrollment Management & Outreach - Leads the development and execution of comprehensive enrollment management strategies that support institutional growth, access, and student success. Leads outreach and communication strategies, ensuring alignment with recruitment, enrollment, and retention goals. Uses student data and analytics to identify target audiences and informative messaging, outreach methods, and service design. Ensures coordinated, consistent engagement with prospective and current students across all stages of the student lifecycle. Develops and implements tactical and strategic initiatives that promote student success, persistence, and completion. Provides leadership across all phases of the student lifecycle-from recruitment and admissions through enrollment, progression, and completion-in alignment with the College's strategic plan. Fosters cross-functional collaboration to address barriers to student success and improve outcomes for diverse student populations.

Data-Informed Planning & Institutional Effectiveness - Ensures data-informed direction, results-based planning, and continuous assessment of student services and enrollment initiatives. Analyzes trends, performance metrics, and analytics to evaluate effectiveness and guide strategic improvements. Researches and applies industry best practices to enhance operational effectiveness and student outcomes.

Leadership, Supervision & Talent Development - Provides leadership and supervision for assigned personnel, promoting a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Supports professional development, training, performance management, and retention of high-performing staff. Ensures staffing structures and competencies align with institutional goals and student needs.

Executive Leadership & External Engagement - Serves as a key member of the President's Cabinet, contributing to college-wide strategic planning and decision-making. Acts as an ambassador for Spartanburg Community College in local and regional communities. Represents the College in public engagements and cultivates partnerships with business and industry, school districts, government agencies, and community organizations to advance recruitment, access, and student success initiatives.
Minimum and Additional Requirements

A master's degree plus six (6) years of progressively responsible related work experience.
Preferred Qualifications

Earned doctorate, along with 10 years of experience in a related field. Proven effectiveness and expertise in enrollment management in higher education: significant professional experience managing the complex interplay of recruiting strategies and enrollment goals; experience in developing partnerships to facilitate growth in resource needs and development.

Additional Comments

May need to occasionally attend meetings/conferences/workshops out of town. Evening and weekend hours to address special events will occasionally be required.
