Full Job Description
Manages and oversees all Company pilots and ensures pilot compliance with all Company policies, procedures, and regulations.

  • The Chief Pilot assumes the duties of the DO in their absence.
    • Manage, direct, and oversee all Company pilots to ensure a professional, safety-oriented culture.

    • Manage the work associated with the Company RVSM policy as set forth in the Company Flight Operations Manual (FOM), Section 5.31.2.

    • Review the procedures defined in approved/accepted Company manuals and recommend revisions and improvements to those manuals when deemed necessary.

    • If acting in the capacity of a Ground Instructor, as defined in the Company Flight Operations Training Manual (FOTM), section 8.3.1, administer ground and classroom training in accordance with the approved Company training program and all applicable regulations.

    • Together with the DO, responsible for the designation of Special Airports.

    • In conjunction with the DO and DOM, and as set forth in FOM Section 2.7, review and monitor any navigation database errors or discrepancies and, as necessary, develop a safety risk assessment and corrective plan of action for mitigation from the software/system provider.

    • Ensure that all pilots are current, qualified, and operate in accordance with Company approved/ accepted manuals and, as applicable, the OpSpecs, 14 CFRs, FAA Orders, ADs, ACs, Company policies and procedures.

    • Ensure pilot appearance, attendance, and personal conduct are in compliance with Company policy, culture, and values.

    • Review the pilot medical due/overdue report provided monthly by the Director of Training, as well as any self-disclosed pilot medical conditions, to ensure all Company pilots are current and that their medical information is properly recorded in the Company QTMS.

    • In conjunction with the Director of Human Resources, conduct the annual Company badge/facility access audit.

    • Represent the Company in government, industry, and community activities relating to flight operations and approve any Flight Crewmember written or verbal statements to media.

    • Immediately notify the DO and Director of Operations Control in the event a pilot becomes unqualified for any reason.

    • Serve as the liaison between the aircraft manufacturer and the DO and advise the DO of any necessary revisions or updates to the Ground De-Ice/Anti-Ice Program manual.

    • Ensure each Company pilot has a Company issued Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) and has access to the Company and vendor manuals, software programs, and licenses necessary to safely execute their duties and responsibilities.

    • Associate Member of CASS Board.

    • Delegate the functions, duties, and authority as appropriate; however, the responsibility may not be delegated.

    • Approve, sign, and request amendments to the OpSpecs.
  • AUTHORITIES

    • Authority to manage all pilots and to execute the procedures, policies, and processes contained in the Company manuals.


    • Take action to resolve any problems or situations that may compromise safety or compliance.


    • Together with the Director of OCC, extend a Flight Crewmember Flight Duty Period in accordance with the procedures set forth in the Operations Control Manual Section 17.4.5.2


    • Act as a company Ground Instructor and/or simulator instructor pending satisfaction of the requirements contained in the FOTM.
  • Authorize weather minimums for Functional Check Flights (FCF) in accordance with approved Company Policy in the Flight Operations Manual (FOM) Section 10.9.1
