Chief of Staff | Nox Metals | Detroit, MI
You will:
- Operate as a force multiplier across operations, hiring, customer experience, finance, and strategy
- Run projects end to end, the unglamorous ones, the urgent ones, and the ones nobody else has time for
- Take things off the founder's plate before they get asked
- Run internal operations, processes, dashboards, automations, and workflows that make the company faster
- Build and maintain reporting and dashboards across every function, sales, operations, supply chain, finance, hiring
- Manage priorities and keep things moving when ten things are happening at once
- Run customer-facing work where the founder cannot, talk to customers, solve problems, close loops
- Prepare materials for partners, customers, and the team, occasional support on investor materials, but the focus is internal
- Help run hiring, sourcing, scheduling, debriefs, and closing across every open role
- Run the operating cadence, weekly metrics, leadership syncs, all-hands, every meeting tighter than the last
- Bring ideas from your background that nobody on the team has thought of yet
- Always ask questions, never guess when something is unclear
- Look at every workflow and figure out how to make it better
- Work safely every shift and hold your teammates to the same standard
You should be:
- 3 to 5+ years as an operator with a real shipping track record, in operations, ops at a startup, consulting with operating exposure, or comparable roles
- Super organized and relentlessly executing, you do not lose details and you do not miss commitments
- High agency, you handle big items alone and ask for help when needed
- Cracked with AI tools, modern software, and data, you live in the stack and use it to do the work of three people
- Sharp with numbers and not afraid to dig into financials, supplier data, customer data, or operational data and pull a real answer out
- Customer obsessed, you understand the company is judged by what customers experience, and you make sure they experience excellence
- A builder at heart, you would rather ship a working v1 today than ship a perfect v3 next month
- Comfortable in any meeting, with operators on the floor, with customers on a call, with engineers on a code review
- High attention to quality, every dashboard, every doc, every project
- Always thinking about how to make processes better, you do not accept "this is how we have always done it";
- A team player with a good attitude, you make the company better for everyone around you
- Someone who takes ownership, if it touches the founder's calendar, the company's plate, or a customer, it is your responsibility
- Precise under pressure and reliable
- Fast, not eventually fast, now fast
- Low ego, you walk the floor, you talk to operators, you do the unglamorous work because it needs to get done
- Committed to safety, you follow every protocol, wear your PPE, and never cut corners that put people at risk
- Always suggesting something new, you do not just execute, you improve
- Not afraid to work outside normal hours when America demands it
- Never says "that's not my job"
Nice to have:
- Operator background at an early-stage technology, manufacturing, defense, or industrial company
- Experience running ops, hiring, and customer-facing workstreams in parallel
- Background in consulting, banking, or operating roles where you owned real outcomes, not just decks
- Comfortable with internal tools, dashboards, and lightweight automation, even if you are not a full software engineer
- Comfortable using AI tools to work faster and smarter
This role is full time, in person in Detroit.
