The chief serves as a key member of the Department of Pediatrics leadership team and reports directly to Department Chair David Brousseau, MD, MS. The chief will provide strategic vision and leadership for all divisional missions, including inpatient care delivery, quality and safety, education, scholarly activity, advocacy, faculty development, and program growth.

This is an exceptional opportunity to lead a highly respected pediatric hospital medicine program within one of the nation's leading integrated pediatric health systems. The chief will partner with hospital, departmental, and enterprise leaders to advance clinical excellence, drive innovation in care delivery, strengthen academic programs, and further elevate the division's regional and national impact.

Strategic Growth, Innovation, and Enterprise Impact

Nemours Children's continues to invest in the future of pediatric health care through the ongoing growth and expansion of our hospital in Delaware. The hospital has expanded clinical programs, specialty services, research initiatives, and regional partnerships, reinforcing its position as one of the premier freestanding children's hospitals in the Mid-Atlantic region.

As Chief of Pediatric Hospital Medicine, you will play a critical leadership role in shaping the future of inpatient pediatric care. Working collaboratively with hospital and enterprise leadership, you will help advance innovative care models, support strategic growth initiatives, optimize operational performance, and strengthen our reputation for delivering exceptional patient outcomes and family-centered care.

Division Overview

The Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine includes 19 hospitalists, many of whom are board- certified in Pediatric Hospital Medicine, including three physicians who are dual trained in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. The division also includes two Pediatric Hospital Medicine fellows and seven Advanced Practice Providers.

The team provides care for approximately 7,000 patients annually within a 220-bed, state-of-the-art children's hospital that serves as a regional referral center for complex pediatric care.

Faculty appointments and opportunities for academic advancement are available through Sidney Kimmel Medical College.

Academic Excellence and Research Leadership

The Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine maintains a strong academic presence within Nemours Children's and serves as a cornerstone of undergraduate and graduate medical education. The division is home to nationally recognized educators and institutional leaders and serves as the primary teaching service for the Pediatric Residency Program of Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University and Nemours Children's, Delaware, and is a main teaching site for hospital medicine learners throughout the region.

As chief, you will foster a culture that supports educational excellence, scholarly activity, quality improvement, and clinical innovation. Opportunities exist to strengthen research collaborations, expand academic programs, mentor future leaders, and further elevate the division's visibility and influence within pediatric hospital medicine.

Division Strengths and Highlights
  • Collaborative Culture: A highly collegial and supportive environment characterized by strong faculty engagement, low turnover, and a shared commitment to clinical excellence, education, and innovation.
  • Established Leadership: Division members serve in influential leadership roles across the institution, including Associate Chief Medical Officer, Assistant Dean of Student Affairs and Career Counseling, and Phase 3 Clerkship Director, reflecting the division's broad impact and institutional influence.
  • Educational Excellence: Award-winning educators, a fully accredited Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowship Program, and extensive opportunities to participate in undergraduate and graduate medical education.
  • Quality and Innovation: Active engagement in quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, clinical operations, and enterprise-wide efforts to advance pediatric healthcare delivery.

Applicants should possess an academic record commensurate with appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level and demonstrate a strong commitment to academic medicine, education, and scholarly activity.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate proven leadership in inpatient pediatric care delivery, with direct responsibility for clinical operations, quality and safety performance, staffing and coverage models, and patient throughput. Experience leading care model innovation and system-level redesign - including the development of sustainable hospital medicine programs, operational efficiencies, and scalable inpatient care models that support growth - is essential.

Candidates must also bring strong administrative leadership experience, financial and operational acumen, and the collaborative skills necessary to lead a multidisciplinary division while fostering physician engagement, faculty development, and organizational alignment.
