POSITION SUMMARY:The Chief Legal Officer (CLO) serves as CCSF's senior legal executive and principal in-house legal advisor, providing strategic counsel to executive leadership on legal, regulatory, governance, compliance, employment, contracting, and risk matters. The CLO plays a key role in reviewing and negotiating physician employment and compensation agreements, professional services agreements, and other operational contracts, while partnering with outside counsel on specialized and complex matters, including tax, managed services, and equity transactions. As a trusted member of the leadership team, the CLO proactively manages legal and business risk, supports informed decision-making, and enables CCSF's growth and strategic objectives while protecting the organization's interests.
CORE ESSENTIAL DUTIES:- Serve as CCSF's principal in-house legal advisor and strategic partner to the CEO, executive leadership on legal, regulatory, governance, compliance, employment, contracting, and risk matters.
- Lead and oversee the organization's legal strategy, proactively identifying and managing legal and business risks while supporting CCSF's operational and strategic objectives.
- Review, draft, and negotiate physician employment and compensation agreements, professional services agreements, and other material operational and commercial contracts.
- Provide legal guidance on healthcare regulatory requirements, corporate governance, compliance, employment matters, and other legal issues affecting the organization.
- Oversee and manage outside counsel relationships for specialized and complex matters, including tax, managed services, equity transactions, and other strategic or transactional matters.
- Partner with executive and operational leaders to evaluate legal implications of business initiatives, acquisitions, growth opportunities, and other strategic decisions.
- Advise on significant disputes, claims, investigations, and other matters presenting material legal, financial, operational, or reputational risk.
- Establish and promote effective legal and contracting practices that support consistent, efficient, and risk-informed decision-making across the organization.
- Foster a practical, solutions-oriented legal function that protects CCSF's interests while enabling innovation, growth, and high-quality patient care.
Requirements
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Minimum 7-10 years of relevant legal experience, including substantial time in-house or in private practice supporting healthcare provider organizations.
- Prior experience in a multi-site medical group, oncology, or specialty practice setting.
- Familiarity with Florida corporate practice of medicine requirements and multi-state employment considerations.
- Experience building or maintaining a contract template library or legal playbook for a growing organization.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSE OR REGISTRATION- Active license to practice law in the State of Florida, in good standing, required. Candidates not yet licensed in Florida must be eligible for admission by reciprocity or examination and must obtain Florida licensure within 90 days of hire.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS OR ABILITIES- Comprehensive knowledge of the Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, corporate practice of medicine requirements, and other applicable healthcare regulations
- Working knowledge of multistate employment laws and payer and provider reimbursement models
- Knowledge of commercial real estate, mergers and acquisitions, and equity transactions
- Knowledge of corporate governance principles and healthcare entity structures
- Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills, particularly involving physician employment and compensation agreements, vendor and managed services agreements, leases, and purchase and equity transactions
- Ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly and concisely to executive, administrative, and clinical audiences
- Skill in managing outside counsel relationships, legal expenses, and related resources
- Ability to exercise sound, independent legal judgment in complex or time-sensitive situations
- Ability to manage sensitive employment, compliance, and organizational matters with professionalism and discretion
