Chief Estimator

Are you an experienced Chief Estimator that can lead and elevate estimating and preconstruction operations within a growing, multi-entity construction organization? This senior leadership role is ideal for a results-driven leader who combines deep technical expertise with strategic vision and a passion for building high-performing teams. The position offers the opportunity to influence company-wide estimating strategy, drive operational excellence, and support scalable growth in the residential construction sector.

Requirements and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Executive Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a multi-company estimating organization
  • Establish performance standards, accountability systems, and professional development pathways
  • Conduct regular performance conversations and evaluations
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accuracy, and continuous improvement


Estimating Strategy & Operational Excellence
  • Design and implement standardized estimating processes and best practices across affiliates
  • Drive consistency through templates, procedures, and scalable workflows
  • Ensure accuracy, efficiency, and repeatability in all estimating functions


Bid Management & Preconstruction Leadership
  • Oversee preparation and submission of comprehensive, competitive bid proposals
  • Review cost models, risk factors, and pricing strategies
  • Collaborate with operations, field leadership, and executive management on strategic pursuits
  • Support long-term business development through informed bidding decisions


Technical Oversight & Systems Integration
  • Lead adoption and optimization of estimating platforms (Planswift transitioning to Stack)
  • Develop and integrate internal tools that improve scheduling, communication, and data flow
  • Ensure technology supports scalable growth and operational efficiency


Market Intelligence & Data Analytics
  • Analyze historical performance data, market trends, and cost drivers
  • Generate executive-level reporting on estimating metrics and bid success rates
  • Provide strategic insights that inform pricing models and growth strategy


Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with affiliate leadership, purchasing, and field teams to refine assemblies and cost assumptions
  • Conduct periodic site visits to align estimating practices with real-world execution
  • Ensure alignment between estimating, procurement, and operational delivery


Compliance & Risk Management
  • Maintain compliance with industry standards, company policies, and contractual requirements
  • Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks during preconstruction


Qualifications
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in construction estimating, including leadership of estimating teams
  • Deep expertise in shell construction and/or drywall estimating within residential construction
  • Proven ability to build and scale high-performing teams
  • Advanced proficiency in estimating software and construction business systems
  • Strong financial acumen and strategic decision-making capability
  • Exceptional communication and executive presence
  • Process-driven mindset with a focus on operational excellence
  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field
