Summary Plans, directs, and supervises the City's building inspection activities.
Essential Functions - Develop and establish policies insuring the efficient operation of the City's building inspection activities;
- Select, train, and supervise personnel directly or through subordinate supervisors, establish performance standards, evaluate the performance of
subordinate staff, establish work priorities, goals, objectives, and schedules; - Develop and administer public relations effort to inform citizens or internal staff of services provided, promote effective citizens and staff relations;
- Recommend revisions of building electrical, mechanical, and plumbing codes;
- Prepare and administer operating budget;
- Perform related duties as directed.
Qualifications Completion of a bachelor degree in engineering, architecture, public administration or a related field with an additional five to seven years of experience in building construction or inspection, including management experience; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:
International Code Council Certified Building Official
Valid Current Driver's License
Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge of: - Pertinent local and state codes and ordinances;
- Enforcement procedures;
- Building construction methods and practices.
Ability to: - Read and interpret codes and ordinances;
- Prepare reports;
- Read and interpret building construction plans and specifications;
- Supervise the work of others;
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with other City officials, builders, and the public;
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Physical Requirements: - Occasionally stand and walk during the shift.
- Occasionally climb ladders, stairs, and other inclined surfaces.
- Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
- Occasionally bend and kneel.
- Occasionally flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees.
- Occasionally rotate upper trunk to the left or right while sitting or standing.
- Place arms above, at, and below shoulder height.
- Coordinate eye, hand, and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle.
