Job Summary

We are currently seeking a Chemist. This position is a full-time opportunity located in Dugway, UT.

This role performs advanced chemical research and analysis, solves complex problems using innovative approaches, and contributes to the design of experiments, assessment of data quality, and preparation of technical documents. The Chemist conducts research on organic and inorganic substances, analyzes and tests materials to identify properties and characteristics, and evaluates chemical reactions and physical relationships to support the development or improvement of products and processes.

Candidates may specialize in one or more areas including Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Geochemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Nuclear Chemistry, Radiochemistry, Organic Chemistry, or Physical Chemistry.

Responsibilities

As a Chemist, the selected individual will lead and execute complex chemical research and analysis in support of client projects and internal research initiatives. Responsibilities may include:
  • Conducting and/or leading small technical projects or phases of larger technical projects, applying innovative methods and approaches
  • Leading projects involving novel methodologies or applications and contributing to internal research and development (IR&D) studies
  • Developing innovative testing and/or analysis methods to improve the quality of results and overall efficiency
  • Generating and evaluating experimental data, preparing data summaries, and analyzing technical results against quality objectives
  • Analyzing and interpreting collected data; preparing technical reports and delivering formal and informal presentations to clients
  • Troubleshooting complex testing processes when expected results are not obtained
  • Building and maintaining relationships with internal and external clients and presenting research findings
  • Communicating with clients regarding deliverable schedules and quality expectations
  • Identifying and reporting intellectual property (IP) opportunities
  • Supporting business development efforts led by others and securing follow-on work
  • Assisting with proposal efforts, including preparation of technical proposal sections
  • Overseeing, mentoring, and training lower-level staff and assisting them in resolving analysis problems
  • Providing direction to and coordinating the efforts of technical support staff within time and budget constraints
  • Participating in scientific conferences, peer review panels, and Battelle-sponsored events to increase company visibility through publications and professional engagement


Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related field with 5 years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree in a related field with 2 years of relevant experience; or a PhD in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Compensation Data

Battelle is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role is $72,000 - $102,000 per year, in addition to our comprehensive benefits package. A candidate's salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, skills, and certifications. Salary ranges may vary based on geographic location and market conditions.
