Overview

CHENEGA PRO FEDERAL SERVICES, LLC

  • The Certified Prosthetist will supply prosthetic and orthotic services to patients based from the physician's prescription and a treatment plan.


Responsibilities

  • Examine, interview, and measure patients to determine their appliance needs and to identify factor
  • Write reports and attend multidisciplinary case meetings to plan and review ongoing treatment.
  • Mentor and coach patients, with various methods of prosthetic care as outlined in the standards of practice of the MTF and IAW JC guidelines
  • Act as the liaison with a wide variety of professionals, such as doctors, occupational therapists physiotherapists, social workers, to give a consistent continuum of care to the patient. Coordinate patient referral to other medical providers and families.
  • Develop a plan that addresses the patient's needs and goals, including pain reduction, comfort, stability and mobility, as well as aesthetics.
  • Review treatment plans periodically and evaluate progress and modify the prosthetic treatment plan as appropriate
  • Select the appropriate design, materials and components for optimum strength, durability and function.
  • Discuss the treatment plan, including benefits, risks and time involved. Work with staff members' acceptable treatment plans.
  • Propose solutions to reduce the challenges and obstacles in participating in the patient's recovery process
  • Oversee the preparation of the patient for the device, with the use of splints or compression garments, as needed.
  • Oversee the taking of measurements, making impressions and developing templates as needed to accurately fit the device
  • Oversee the fabrication/assembly of the device and assess that it is properly align for maximum function and comfort
  • Provide ongoing care, including evaluation and modification of the device for optimal fit and function.
  • Oversee the duties and responsibilities of the assigned Prosthetist's Assistant(s) and Prosthetics Technician
  • Ensure compliance with standard of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the medical treatment MTF and IAW JC guidelines.
  • Provide care within ethical and legal boundaries.
  • Can demonstrate and adhere to perioperative, infection control and safety policies and procedures.
  • Participate in customer service initiatives and medical readiness activities, designed to enhance health services
  • Participate in the orientation, training, and evaluation of duty performance of newly assigned personnel, as appropriate.
  • Remain technically proficient and current with all surgical advances (i.e. Osseo integration) and associated technologies related to prosthetic devices prescribed by amputee surgeon's and or rehabilitation physicians.
  • Fabricate and fit prosthetic sockets, constructed of carbon fiber and composite acrylic laminate sockets, when residuum is determined stable; or, for special events that require a more durable connection between the socket and the other components of the prosthesis.
  • Make post-initial fitment adjustments to patient's existing prosthetic devices with respect to patients' physical and/or occupational therapy sessions. The contractor shall have the capability to make socket changes in prosthetic device(s) to address rapid volume change and pressure points associated with severe blast injuries within 48 hours of notification of such need.
  • May need to fabricate and fit the highest technologically developed upper extremity prostheses for the treatment of upper extremity amputees. This includes but is not limited to myoelectric terminal devices, sensor hand speed, bebionic terminal devices, advanced microprocessor elbows and advanced mind machine technological interfaces
  • Provide actions necessary for fabricating and fitting control systems for prosthetic devices that incorporate the most recent advancements in elbow, wrist, hand, and finger prosthetic components in accordance with the written prescription of the physician.
  • Shall document the experience of the Prosthetists proposed to perform work under this contract in the provision of activity specific prosthetic devices
  • Shall enter in themselves all prosthetic device and patient fitment information into the individual patients' record using the AHLTA system for electronic medical records; as required by ABC.
  • Shall utilize Health Care Common Procedural Coding System (HCPCS) Schedule , as published by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), of the US Department of Health & Human Services; in the here the physician's prosthetic prescription calls for device(s) that are so listed.
  • Required to maintain a full patient caseload aligned with that of other contract employees or GS staff.
  • Assess, coordinate, facilitate, deliver and evaluate care for infant to geriatric patients
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's degree from an accredited educational institution
  • Minimum of 24 semester credit hours in course work related to health care, public administration, or business
  • Minimum three (3) years'experience, as a Prosthetist/Orthotist in a hospital or clinical setting.
  • Valid certification as a Prosthetist and Orthoptist by the ABC or BOC governing board.
  • Possess and maintain current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledgeable of equipment and supply terminology and skill sufficient to identify and use necessary equipment and supplies properly and to communicate proper use with nurses, medical staff, patients, and family members.
  • Excellent written communication skills to perform accurate documentation, both written and electronic, of all activity in accordance with requirements
  • Knowledgeable and possess skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients.
  • Knowledge of computer operations and proficiency in the use of basic word processing, data entry and automated medical records.
  • Ability to act on all prosthetic medical orders in a timely manner explain how to use and maintain the device
  • Ability to fabricate and fit prosthetic devices that incorporate the most recent advancements in powered prosthetic components; in microprocessor controlled or sensory controlled prosthetic components, and to incorporate the most advanced suspension and joint systems components, as prescribed in the written prescription of the patient's physician.
  • Ability to fabricate and fit activity specific prosthetic devices as prescribed by the physician.
  • Ability to fabricate and fit prosthetic devices whose designs provide solutions to prosthetic device design and fitting problems found in the co- morbidities most closely associated with blast injuries. These co-morbidities include, but are not limited to skin grafts, heterotopic ossification, abnormal suture lines, etc.
