Job Description:

Reports to: Executive Director of National Service Programs

Salary Range: $95,000-$103,000 annual salary, depending on qualifications & experience
Status: Full-Time, Exempt
Location:Hybrid - San Francisco Bay Area. Can work remotely, but spontaneous travel will be required throughout California and for occasional meetings in the BACR office in El Cerrito, CA.

Roles and Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning

The Program Director is responsible for guiding CERC to fulfill its mission in the best way possible by working with the staff to form plans of approach for various challenges. Some of the areas where this planning is needed are:

  • Recruitment, Selection and Retention of ACMs

  • Recruitment and Selection of Staff

  • Expansion/Reduction of the program

  • Deployments

  • Training for Staff and ACM’s

  • CERC’s relationship with BACR and California Volunteers (CV)

  • Improvement of internal processes and procedures (e.g. Salesforce development)

Agency Partner and Other Relationships

The Program Director has a lead role in developing and maintaining relationships with CERC partners and other Community Based Organizations. These responsibilities include:

  • Recruiting new and potential Partner Agencies

  • Planning events with partner agencies (e.g. site supervisor orientation)

  • Quarterly site visits with Project Coordinators

  • When necessary, act as mediator when issues arise between agencies and ACMs or agencies and the program

  • Participating in BACR Leaders Group

  • Streamlining communication between BACR, CERC, and CV

Contracts/Development

The Program Director is responsible for all regular reports and all funding proposals to Government Agencies, BACR, and other organizations and foundations that provide funding to CERC.

Fiscal Management

The Program Director is also responsible for making sure the program as a whole does not exceed its budget. On a day-to-day basis this means the Program Director is responsible for:

  • Approving expenses/purchases

  • Approving staff time sheets

  • Salary review

Deployment Management and Supervision

The Program Director is responsible for responding to all deployment requests from California Volunteers. This includes budget management; program coordinator and ACM assignments; and managing relationships with requesting partners. The Program Director is responsible for deployment supervision, which will require spontaneous travel for on the ground supervision.

Management

The Program Director is the Supervisor for all CERC Staff and directly supervises the following positions:

  • Project Coordinators

  • AmeriCorps Members

Identify needs and responsibilities of Project Coordinators and provide necessary support, coaching and supervision. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Regular Check-ins with all Project Coordinators

  • Observe and give feedback to Project Coordinators regarding Team days, Trainings, and other facets of their job and overall job performance

  • Conduct performance evaluations for Project Coordinators

  • Act as an Advocate/Problem Solver for Project Coordinators in issues involving ACM’s, CERC and BACR Leadership, and Agency Partners

  • Responsible for reviewing and auditing ACM files

  • Make sure that Project Coordinators fulfill their responsibilities, both those that are part of their job description and any other responsibilities they may have taken on

  • Help Project Coordinators to work effectively by working with them to establish clear and specific steps toward fulfilling their goals, and following up on those steps

  • Keep secure files with necessary paperwork for each Project Coordinator

  • When possible, provide training and professional development opportunities

CERC Organizational Requirements

All CERC staff have certain responsibilities which are necessary to be an effective part of the CERC team. The Program Director is responsible for:

  • Approving (signing) BACR paperwork for Staff (expense reports, check requests, staff time sheets, etc.)

  • Timely submission of paperwork as deemed necessary by BACR

  • Taking the lead in strategic planning and visioning for CERC as a whole

  • Attendance & participation in Staff and Corps Member Trainings and Events

  • Willingness to take on additional responsibilities when necessary and feasible

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of broad experience in managing and developing programs

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with other community agencies

  • Ability to work independently while remaining engaged in a strong, mutually respectful team

  • Clear, friendly and professional public speaking manner

  • Excellent writing skills

  • Willingness to work weekends and/or evenings

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Access) and Salesforce

  • Ability to handle multiple projects and prioritize.

  • Must have their own vehicle and provide car insurance.
