About the Role: 

 

Reporting to the Manager, Student Talent Development, theCareer Development Consultantis responsible forcoordinating,organizingandfacilitatingthe co-opprofessionalpreparationcoursesusing the career educationcurriculum.Theincumbentprovidesinformationand guidance toundergraduate and graduate levelco-opstudents(and studentsparticipatingin work integrated learning)through individualand group consultationsto support employmentpreparation skillsand career readiness toincrease the probability ofemployability within theever-changingjob market.

TheCareer Development Consultantdesigns and delivers career education curriculumincludingcompetency-basedprogrammingusing innovative teaching and learning practices.Theincumbentalso supervises,trainsand directs work of student staffto ensureco-opstudents meet requirementsfor a meaningful and engaging experience.

 

TheCareer Development Consultantwill:

 

  • Develop non-credit co-opprofessional preparationcourses usingthecareer education curriculumunder guidance from theManager, Student Talent Development;

  • Develop course outlines, learning outcomes and assessmenttools includingreflective practice exercises for students;

  • Design instructional materials, applyinguniversal design methodsand ensuring equity, diversity and inclusion standards and upheld to a high standard;

  • Manage relationships withexternal partners and industry professionals forcourse-basedlearning simulations;

  • Facilitate courses including leading lectures, large-group and small-group discussionsboth online and in person assuring high impact practices of teaching and learning;

  • Assiststudents with identifying learning outcomes in their program of study to build on individual capabilities and confidence,develop and articulate core competencies,overcome employment barriers and strategize on how to market themselves effectively to potential employers;

  • Advisestudents onresume and cover letter writing,interview techniques,wage negotiation, professional etiquette, branding, networking skills,LinkedInprofile, and overall decision making while seeking co-op employment;

  • Develop,maintain, and update career development resources that reflect current and emerging labour market trends;

  • Deliver presentationsandparticipateacross Co-op, Career & Experiential Education(CCEE)events and programming;

  • Ensure students are trained incareer development strategies and practices including the CCEEcareer development model, Brock Competenciesand equity,diversityand inclusion principles;

  • Supervise, coach, guide and manage student staff performanceensuring CCEE and Brock values are upheld and programobjectivesare met;

  • Manageand createadynamic online learningenvironment for students using Brock9s Learning Management System (I.e. Brightspace D2L);

  • Integrate online toolsincluding career assessments, AI platforms(i.e.,VMock), simulations,virtual events,and other emergingtechnologiestomaintainupdated content and careercurriculum;and

  • Identifyand apply innovative, technology-enabled strategies to continuously improve learner engagement.

KeySkills andExperience:

 

  • An undergraduate degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience;

  • Experience incoursedesignand delivery,instructional techniques,andfacilitationexperience in a post-secondary environment;

  • Coaching, careerdevelopmentandemploymentadvisingexperience;

  • Knowledge of teaching and learning practices,instructional principles (online and in person),career developmenttheory,methodsand practices;

  • Knowledge and experience in development of equity, diversity, accessibility and inclusion resources and best practices relevant to the role and unit operations;

  • Understanding of relevant labour market trends, occupationalresearchand career/job search information;

  • Solid computer competency includingplatforms such as DB Brock, Sakai,CareerZone,Office 365 suites (Teams, Planner, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), and AI technology;

  • Ability todemonstrateahigh levelprofessional and dynamic presentation style to engage and motivate students in small and large groups;

  • Advanced communication skills and professional public speaking ability;

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills for providing feedback, conductingindividual competencies andskills assessments, andmotivating students for personal and professional growth; and

  • Excellentprioritization, time management, andorganizational skills.

Preferred or Asset Skills:

 

  • Career Development Practitioner (CDP) designation;

  • Master of Education with a focus in Teaching, Learning and Development; and

  • Knowledge of setting up,maintaining, and administering courses using Learning Management Systems (i.e. D2L Brightspace).

 

SalaryandTotal Rewards:

  • Job GradeL, Salary Scale ($67,721 - $108,353);

  • Target Hiring Range:$67,721 -$69,000*
