Job Summary

Reporting to the Practice Manager and working under the supervision of the Physician, the Nurse Practitioner is responsible for preparing patients for examination and treatment while supporting the physician in the delivery of clinical care.
Job Functions
  • Diagnose, treat, evaluate, and manage acute and chronic illnesses and diseases, including diabetes and high blood pressure.
  • Obtain comprehensive medical histories.
  • Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic studies, including Exercise Tolerance Tests (ETTs), Stress Echocardiograms, Myoviews, and EKGs.
  • Prescribe physical therapy and other rehabilitation treatments.
  • Prescribe medications for acute and chronic illnesses in accordance with state regulations governing prescriptive authority.
  • Provide care for patients in acute and critical care settings.
  • Counsel and educate patients on health behaviors, self-care skills, and treatment options.
  • Assist with the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program.
  • Perform EKGs, apply Holter monitors, analyze and download Holter monitor data to the off-site company, and apply event monitors.
  • Co-manage patients with congestive heart failure and patients with pacemakers (PPM) and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs).
  • Conduct follow-up calls to patients regarding test results after physician review.
  • Provide care for both inpatient and outpatient populations.
  • Document patient care accurately in the medical record.
  • Respond to patient calls regarding medical questions and address them appropriately.
  • Maintain inventory of medical supplies and notify the Office Manager when supplies need to be ordered.
  • Maintain and support patients' rights to quality care, privacy, and respect.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
  • Master's or Doctoral degree as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN).
Experience
  • National Board Certification.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of individualized care experience in cardiac medicine.
Licensure and/or Certification
  • Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is required.
  • Current national certification with recertification as required every six years.
  • Current ACLS certification required.
  • Current BLS Healthcare Provider certification required.
  • Ability to attain and maintain Nurse Practitioner privileges at Emerson Hospital.
