Job SummaryUniversity of Michigan Health (UMH) is seeking a Senior Project Lead-Team Manager to join the Facilities Planning and Development (FPD) team. FPD provides user consultation and support services at numerous stages of project implementation, including concept development, planning, budgeting, funding, design, engineering, construction administration, project activation and limited commissioning. Responsibilities*Manage a Facilities Planning, Design, Activation Team. Represent Facilities Planning and Development (FPD) in all matters related to facilities planning, design, and activation. Direct professional staff, consultants, and vendors in the completion of project-related activities. Serve as a Facilities Planning. Design, and Activation liaison with UMH departments and leadership. Regularly advises verbally and in writing on status, potential opportunities, and possible risks of improvements and projects to leadership, project partners, and end users. Prepares reports, presentations, correspondence, meeting minutes, and other documents to ensure timely and efficient communication and decision-making.
Leverages the understanding of facility planning, healthcare design, and project management to assist in solving problems and developing solutions to capital and operational projects. Direct preparation of or develop their own opinions of probable costs, opinions of project requirements, plans and specifications, project schedules, and project strategies for assigned projects.
Assign projects and tasks to staff. Mentor staff. Conduct staff group meetings and one-on-one meetings at regular intervals. Conduct annual staff performance reviews. Lead process improvement initiatives. Maintain all necessary records and documents for the efficient oversight and execution of projects assigned to the team.
Oversee, manage, and review all aspects of project delivery for both owned and leased facilities to ensure compliance with client expectations and UMH guidelines. Directs and monitors the completion of programming, design development, construction documents, and bidding. Directly manages deactivation, construction, and activation activities. Schedules systems installations, inspections, and post-construction services. Coordinates delivery, removal, and installation of furniture, fixtures, and equipment with vendors and/or FPD support staff.
Develops and reviews design guidelines, standards, processes, and tools required for the effective and efficient delivery of projects. Ensures that project record documents (as-builts, O&M manuals, etc.) are properly archived and shared with appropriate staff and partners. Assists in maintaining compliance with Federal, State, local building codes, contract documents, hospital life safety and regulatory standards, ADA regulations, and infection control requirements.
Required Qualifications*- Bachelor's degree from an accredited program in planning, architecture, engineering, or a similar field.
- At least 7 years of experience in project management, construction, and/or facility design.
- Supervisory and/or team leadership experience. Able to support and mentor a team of architectural and construction professionals.
- Hold a professional license/certification (RA, PE, LEED AP, or PMP) or obtain within 6 months of start date.
- Working knowledge of design and construction of healthcare environments and facilities.
- Solid leadership, strategic thinking, decision-making, problem-solving, and written/verbal communication skills.
- Able to lead a team with multiple priorities, objectives, and deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel & PowerPoint). Familiarity with Autodesk AutoCad.
