Full Job Description
The Optum Cancer Support Program (CSP) Clinical Consultant (CC) will provide clinical guidance and insight to assist in delivering a comprehensive oncology care management solution meeting clinical, quality and performance objectives.

The CSP CC will help ensure nurse care managers provide high-quality, evidence-based, comprehensive oncology care support for our clients. As such, this role requires a hands-on, action-oriented clinician.

This position will serve as an oncology expert dedicated to helping ensure high levels of member and provider satisfaction.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Comprehensive oncology care management: Collaborate with oncology nurse case managers, social workers, behavioral health partners, medical directors, and other multidisciplinary team members to deliver comprehensive care management support for members enrolled in the Optum Cancer Support Program (CSP)
  • Provider engagement and care gap closure: Engage treating providers through telephonic outreach and conduct peer-to-peer (P2P) consultations, as needed, to help address clinical or service gaps, including symptom management, care coordination, psychosocial or caregiver needs, medication-related concerns, and barriers to care access
  • Evidence-based clinical support: Apply evidence-based oncology knowledge, including National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines, to inform clinical decision support, protocols, and care management resources supporting optimal member outcomes
  • Internal partnership and program performance: Partner with internal stakeholders to support high-quality, coordinated care management services and contribute to clinical quality outcomes, program performance goals, and operational effectiveness
  • Clinical education and expertise: Strengthen oncology clinical expertise across the care management team and internal partners through education, training sessions, multidisciplinary case discussions, and professional presentations
  • Subject matter expertise and client engagement: Serve as an oncology subject matter expert for internal and external partners, support the Optum clinical value proposition, and participate in client-facing sessions, webinars, sales support, and growth initiatives related to oncology products and services as needed
  • Program review and continuous improvement: Participate in audits, documentation and process reviews, in addition to analysis of quality metrics, claims data, and utilization data to identify opportunities for improvement, innovation, and program growth
  • Collaboration and independent execution: Work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment to support quality improvement, innovation, growth, and excellence in healthcare delivery

Required Qualifications:

  • Licensure: Active, unrestricted Advanced Practice Provider license as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
  • Oncology clinical experience: 3+ years of recent advanced practice experience in an oncology clinical practice setting within the past 5 years
  • Evidence-based practice: Experience applying evidence-based oncology practices, including NCCN (National Comprehensive Cancer Network) guidelines, in clinical patient management
  • Provider collaboration: Experience participating in peer-to-peer discussions and collaborating with clinical teams or treating providers to support care coordination and quality outcomes
  • Collaboration and influence: Proven ability to quickly establish credibility, influence others, and partner effectively with staff and the broader clinical community
  • Remote work readiness: Access to high-speed internet from home, including Broadband Cable, DSL, or Fiber, and a dedicated home workspace


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Palliative Care and/or Hospice experience
  • Clinical leadership and education: Experience in clinical leadership, clinical teaching, training, or delivering professional presentations to internal or external stakeholders
  • Care delivery and management experience: Proven background in medical care delivery systems, managed care, care management, disease management, quality management, or product development

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $91,700 - $163,700 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
