Position Title: CAD Drafter
Location: Remote
Client Port Authority of New York & New Jersey (PANYNJ)
The Consultant shall provide as-needed CAD drafting and drawing production support for the Port Authority Engineering Department. The primary need is for qualified drafting resources who can efficiently produce, revise, and maintain engineering drawings using Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D. Assignments may vary in size and complexity and will be issued on a task basis. The requirements below are intentionally focused on the core skills needed to perform the work.
Scope of Work
• Civil 3D Drafting and Drawing Production. Prepare, revise, update, and maintain engineering drawings, plans, details, base maps, backgrounds, and related CAD deliverables using Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Drawing Updates and Redlines. Incorporate engineering markups, field notes, survey information, design comments, as-built information, and revisions into existing or new drawings.
• CAD Standards and File Organization. Apply applicable Port Authority CAD standards and project-specific requirements, including layers, blocks, text, dimensions, references, naming conventions, and plotting requirements.
• Property Sets and Drawing Data. Create, edit, maintain, and populate AutoCAD Civil 3D Property Sets and other object-level attributes so drawing elements can carry required engineering, inspection, asset, or GIS-related information.
• Civil 3D File Support. Work with Civil 3D drawings and project files, including references and standard Civil 3D objects as needed for assigned drafting tasks. The Consultant is not expected to perform engineering design unless specifically authorized under an individual task.
• CAD / GIS / Survey Coordination. Incorporate available survey, GIS, and other reference data into CAD drawings and maintain appropriate coordinate, reference, and attribution information when required by the task.
• Quality Control. Check drawings for completeness, accuracy, file integrity, reference-file functionality, plotting, layers, blocks, Property Sets, and compliance with applicable project requirements prior to submission.
• Project Coordination. Coordinate assigned drafting work with Port Authority engineers, project managers, survey, GIS, and other project staff; address comments and revisions; and maintain assigned files and deliverables.
Minimum Qualifications
• Demonstrated hands-on proficiency using Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D. AutoCAD Civil 3D proficiency is required.
• Practical experience preparing, revising, and maintaining engineering or infrastructure CAD drawings.
• Demonstrated ability to work with standard CAD elements including layers, blocks, external references, text, dimensions, layouts, and plotting.
• Demonstrated ability to create, modify, populate, and maintain AutoCAD Civil 3D Property Sets or comparable object-level CAD data.
• Ability to interpret and incorporate engineering markups, sketches, comments, survey information, and existing drawing information.
• Ability to produce organized, editable, and quality-controlled CAD deliverables within assigned schedules.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience using automation to increase CAD production speed and consistency, such as AutoLISP, scripts, Dynamo, .NET tools, batch processing, templates, macros, or other Civil 3D-compatible automation methods.
• Experience developing reusable CAD templates, blocks, Property Sets, standards, or repeatable production workflows.
• Experience with CAD-to-GIS workflows or preparing CAD data for downstream GIS use.
• Experience supporting transportation, infrastructure, facility, or public-sector engineering drawings.
Deliverable Expectations
• CAD files shall be complete, editable, organized, and suitable for continued use by Port Authority staff and consultants.
• Deliverables shall comply with the applicable CAD standards and task-specific instructions provided by the Port Authority.
• Submissions may include DWG files, reference/support files, plot-ready PDFs, drawing logs, or other task-specific deliverables.
Compensation
Good-faith compensation rate range is around $40-$50 per hour, depending on experience, qualifications, certifications, technical expertise, and client requirements.
