Job Description:

The Cabin Design Engineer supports the development, customization, and continuous evolution of aircraft cabin and cargo interiors/payloads for airline customers. Working under general direction at an intermediate to advanced professional level, the engineer autonomously performs routine to moderate levels of engineering design, analysis, and data integration from initial conceptual phase to final product installation.

Key responsibilities are balanced across evaluating supplier 3D/2D design solutions, managing part number steering and configuration data within complex databases, troubleshooting installation issues at the Final Assembly Line (FAL), tracking critical supplier engineering deliverables, and authoring customized specifications to meet airline requirements.

Your working environment:

The Engineering Center in Mobile, Alabama houses hundreds of Airbus engineers who assist in the design and development of Airbus commercial aircraft cabins, including aftermarket upgrades, reconfigurations and services of all product types across the globe.

Your challenges:
  • Design Integration & Maturation: Autonomously perform routine to moderate levels of design solution development, layout maturation, and spatial integration using 3D modeling software. Assignments include detailed part integration, clearance/clash analysis, and trade study evaluations.
  • Configuration & Part Number Steering: Manage and steer part numbers (PNs) and Bill of Materials (BOM) within PLM tools to ensure correct technical effectivity, interchangeability, and configuration tracking across product variants under general direction.
  • Compliance & Certification Review: Review, evaluate, and secure engineering compliance documents from suppliers to support airworthiness approval. This includes checking Certification Plans, Test Plans, Test Reports, and Declarations of Design and Performance (DDP) for technical accuracy and alignment with program requirements.
  • FAL & Manufacturing Support: Provide real-time engineering support and troubleshooting for routine to moderate physical and systems integration issues discovered on the shop floor or at the Final Assembly Line (FAL). Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering to resolve installation non-conformances.

Your boarding pass:
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Engineering of Computer Science, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 6 years of experience in design, analysis, and systems/structural integration of cabin interiors, monuments, furnishings, or payload installation projects.
  • Demonstrated experience handling configuration management, engineering change tracking, or part structures within an aerospace Design Office environment.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Ability to understand and mentor principles within assigned discipline.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical aircraft topics.
  • Authorized to work in the US.
  • Working knowledge of cabin interior product development.


Physical Requirements:
  • Onsite or remote: Onsite 100%
  • Vision: able to see and read computer screens and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings.
  • Hearing: able to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on the production floor including safety warnings or alarms.
  • Speaking: able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications.
  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts.
  • Carrying: able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
  • Lifting: able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
  • Pushing / Pulling: able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools.
  • Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on the computer.
  • Squatting / Kneeling: able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.
  • Standing: able to stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor.
  • Travel: able to travel independently and at short notice.
  • Walking (include routine walking such as to a shared printer to retrieve documents): able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces.
  • Personal Protective Equipment required: Required PPE includes, but is not limited to, Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Respirators/Masks, and/or Protective Gloves as required by site and/or customer site
