Job Description/Preferred Qualifications
The Filmetrics group in San Diego is looking for a Buyer to join our team. This role requires experience in electronics and optical procurement, along with the ability to collaborate with vendors on technical requirements and lead strategic discussions with cross-functional stakeholders.
• Having wide-ranging experience, uses professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.
• Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
• Determines methods and procedures on new assignments, and may provide guidance to other personnel.
Review and analyze purchase requisitions, RFQ, and evaluate suppliers to support the current build plan.
Coordinates purchasing activities with Production, Planning and Engineering to acquire inventory in a cost effective and timely manner. Coordinates any changes with Sales and Production as appropriate to evaluate impact.
Owns Purchase Order management, e.g. ensure delivery on-time (OTD) and rescheduling.
Responsible for procurement business system data input and integrity. Experience with subcontracted materials and SAP settings will be beneficial.
Performs cost analysis and volume planning for major commodities (e.g. materials, components, equipment and services).
Monitors the cost, schedule and scope of assigned suppliers/subcontracts to negotiate highest quality at best value.
Develops new supply sources where vendors and suppliers are no longer competitive. May recommend cost saving proposals including make-versus-buy analysis or alternative sourcing.
Interacts closely with suppliers and manufacturing engineering to resolve quality issues.
Buyer point of contact for Engineering Change Order review and implementation.
Works with management to address all aspects of commodity management, including procurement support, commodity business plans, market trends assessment, pricing, and product availability. Requires domestic or global expertise of assigned commodities.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills with the ability to build effective relationships across suppliers and internal stakeholders.
Experience developing and executing sourcing strategies that align with business objectives, cost targets, and supply continuity requirements.
Proven ability to lead supplier negotiations, manage supplier performance, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Experience developing and facilitating supplier business reviews, performance scorecards, and corrective action plans.
Strong understanding of supply chain management best practices, procurement processes, and compliance requirements, with the ability to ensure adherence to company policies and external regulations.
Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and support a high-volume, fast-paced work environment.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data analysis, reporting, pivot tables, and trend identification.
Experience working with ERP systems; SAP experience preferred.
APICS certification (CPIM/CSCP) or equivalent supply chain certification preferred.
Self-motivated, results-oriented professional with a demonstrated ability to work independently and drive initiatives to completion.
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Operations, or a related field required.
Minimum of 8 years of experience in procurement, sourcing, supply chain, or manufacturing operations.
Experience in a manufacturing or high-tech environment preferred.

Base Pay Range: $104,000.00 - $176,800.00 Annually
