About the Opportunity:

We are seeking a Business Unit leader to manage shift operations in a precision machining facility to lead shift operations in a precision machining environment. This role is responsible for overseeing team leads and shop floor employees, optimizing equipment utilization, and driving productivity to ensure on-time delivery while meeting strict quality standards. This is a highly visible, floor-based leadership role requiring a leader who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment-coaching teams, driving operational excellence, and leading continuous improvement.

Location: Newburyport MA

Responsibilities:
  • Lead and develop a team of approximately 25-35 employees, including team leads and indirect shop floor personnel, driving performance, accountability, and engagement across the production area.
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of hourly production employees, ensuring effective use of labor and equipment to meet production priorities.
  • Drive a safe work environment by enforcing all safety policies, procedures, and compliance expectations.
  • Ensure products meet customer and internal quality standards; support problem-solving and process improvements using Lean/Kaizen principles.
  • Plan and execute daily operations to meet or exceed shipping and delivery targets (weekly, monthly, and annual).
  • Coach, mentor, and develop employees through training, cross-training, performance feedback, and positive employee relations.
  • Partner with Engineering, Quality, Materials, Planning, and other business leaders to resolve issues impacting productivity and on-time delivery.
  • Maintain clear communication across shifts and with leadership on operational performance, priorities, and handoff needs.
  • Support staffing needs through hiring, onboarding, and development of high-performing team members.
  • Participate in and lead continuous improvement initiatives and site-wide workshops as needed.
  • Review operational requests (including purchase needs) and escalate for approval when required.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field, with 5+ years of manufacturing leadership or supervisory experience,

OR
  • High School diploma or equivalent, with 8+ years of manufacturing leadership or management experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience supervising hourly production employees
  • At least 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with working knowledge of safety, quality, and production systems.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis without sponsorship now or in the future. The Company cannot offer employment to visa holders who require employer sponsorship in the future or cannot work now on a full-time basis.
  • Must be able to perform work subject to ITAR/EAR regulations.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Aerospace manufacturing experience and familiarity with AS9100.
  • Lean/Six Sigma certification or demonstrated continuous improvement expertise.
  • Experience leading teams through change and growth.

Working Conditions:
  • Requires mobility in a manufacturing plant environment while using Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Must be able to frequently sit, stand and walk.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 15 pounds.
  • Must be able to have prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
