Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Business Specialist for the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences.

Among the key duties of the position are the following:
  • Reviews financial data and prepares financial documents and reports for internal and external use, applying a broad understanding of the unit's mission, vision, and operational goals.
  • Handles both routine and non-routine accounting and financial tasks with minimal supervision, using sound judgment and professional knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Manages all financial and business activities related to departmental teaching, research, and outreach programs.
  • Oversees funding sources including state budget allocations, Hatch grants, designated and restricted funds, and endowed accounts.
  • Manages budget development, financial planning, expenditure review, compliance oversight, and the preparation of financial reports that support faculty and departmental decision-making.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business management, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience in a related field and a minimum of two years of relevant experience.


Certifications/Licenses

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Familiarity with key federal sponsor agencies, their requirements, operations, and procedures.
  • Skills in planning, organizing, and decision-making to achieve results.
