Your Opportunity

An opportunity exists for a successful candidate to become the Business Center (BC) Practice Leader (BCPL) for Environmental Services in Calgary or Edmonton, Alberta. Reporting to the Senior Principal, Regional Growth Leader of Environmental Services, you will focus on delivering project excellence with our local and regional clients. The BCPL leads the growth of the BC and Stantec's market position while providing exceptional technical quality and project execution. The BCPL provides leadership to the business development activities within the BC, including supervision of team members who are highly engaged in winning work, driving excellence, and growing market presence. The BCPL partners with the other BC Leaders to lead and manage, inspire and engage, and win and do work.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the development and execution of the overall Environmental Services business strategy and achievement of key operational and performance metrics
  • Accountable for top line revenue growth and achieving minimum marketing and business development (M&BD) sales goals, including internal cross-selling initiatives
  • Lead and/or conduct business development efforts, including market research, developing leads and client relationships, and securing contracts
  • Actively contributing to win strategies, key pursuits and successful project execution
  • Establish and grow productive, collaborative relationships internally within the company, and externally with clients
  • Provide technical expertise and lead technical delivery on a variety of projects and proposals ensuring successful outcomes for our clients, focusing on our assessment and permitting practice
  • Inspire, motivate, and hold team members accountable for project delivery, Quality Assurance / Quality Control, discipline excellence and technical quality
  • Develop and manage training programs to aid in new service line delivery
  • Oversee risk management related to projects and pursuits including review of contracts, fees and proposals on large pursuits
  • Participate in all phases of project management including program development, budgeting, planning and design, project implementation and project closure
  • Lead, challenge, and inspire technical staff (including coaching/mentoring young professionals) through substantive engagement and communication
  • Support the BC Operations Leader (BCOL) in meeting established targets for net revenue, gross margin, and operating income in the BC
  • Support BCOL with the health and safety performance of the BC, including the monitoring of leading and lagging indicators, meeting leading indicator goals, and following up on BC Improvement Plans
  • Support Stantec's brand awareness through thought leadership and stakeholder engagement

  • Entrepreneurial minded with a core understanding of business and the challenges of an engineering and environmental consulting services provider
  • Experience in preparing comprehensive budget expenditures, overall project schedules, and in planning and managing revenue and expenses for a business unit
  • Strong technical background working in Environmental Services with the Assessment and Permitting practice
  • Team player with experience building, leading, and managing a team
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills with an ability to clearly convey and distill complex technical information to a variety of audiences


Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field with a minimum of 10 years' related work, leadership, financial management, business development and consulting experience; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.


This position is focused upon primarily working in our Edmonton or Calgary offices, though travel to other Stantec office locations, the field, and/or meetings with clients will be needed on a periodic basis.
