SummaryThe Business Applications Development Manager is a hands-on technical management position. The manager is expected to actively participate in solution architecture, software development, integrations, code review, testing, troubleshooting, and production support while leading the development team.
The successful candidate must be comfortable balancing individual technical contributions with people leadership, project delivery, and stakeholder communication.
Some of the work you will do: - Design, develop, test, deploy, document, and maintain business applications, integrations, APIs, automations, and data solutions.
- Lead solution architecture and technical design decisions.
- Conduct code reviews and establish development, source control, testing, documentation, and deployment standards.
- Evaluate the scalability, maintainability, security, and operational feasibility of proposed solutions.
- Diagnose and resolve application defects and production issues.
- Establish, maintain, and consistently apply software development lifecycle standards across the team.
- Set individual and team objectives, provide timely feedback, conduct performance and development discussions, and address performance concerns in accordance with company practices.
- Prioritize and assign work based on business needs, technical complexity, dependencies, team capacity, and employee development opportunities.
- Own and maintain the application development roadmap and backlog, balancing business enhancements, operational support, security requirements, technical debt, and team capacity.
- Establish clear expectations and provide ongoing coaching and technical guidance.
- Promote collaboration, accountability, documentation, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
- Support hiring, onboarding, skills development, and succession planning for the team.
- Partner with business stakeholders and cross-functional teams to communicate solution proposals, scope, dependencies, risks, technical decisions, and delivery status.
- Define the testing strategy, develop test scenarios, and coordinate user acceptance testing and production readiness.
- Ensure solutions align with business goals, architecture standards, security requirements, and support processes.
- Create innovative solutions to meet our company's technical needs.
- Determine operational feasibility by evaluating analysis, problem definition, requirements, solution development, and proposed solutions.
- Document and demonstrate solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments, and clear code.
- Prepare and maintain installation, deployment, configuration, support, and operational handoff documentation.
- Identify areas to automate, define the automation strategy, and implement it.
- Train staff on new technologies and systems, providing user guides and support as needed.
- Prepare concise reports for Digital leadership and executive management covering application health, delivery progress, operational risks, team capacity, service trends, and relevant performance indicators.
Here are the skills that you need: - Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, information systems, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- 7+ years of progressive experience in application or software development.
- Demonstrated experience leading developers or technical delivery teams.
- Strong hands-on programming experience in one or more languages.
- Experience designing, developing, and supporting APIs and system integrations.
- Strong SQL and relational database experience.
- Experience across the full software development lifecycle, including requirements, design, development, testing, deployment, documentation, support, and maintenance.
- Experience with source control, code review, release management, and structured development practices.
- Ability to translate business requirements into secure, maintainable, and supportable technical solutions.
- Strong written, verbal, facilitation, coaching, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to balance hands-on development, team leadership, operational support, and project delivery.
Here are the skills and qualifications that will set you apart: - Experience with Microsoft enterprise application technologies such as Dynamics 365 or Business Central, Power Platform, Azure services, Microsoft 365, SQL Server, REST APIs, integration platforms, or comparable technologies is preferred.
- Experience with cloud services, integration platforms, automation tools, and modern application architecture.
- Experience managing application vendors or implementation partners.
- Experience establishing development standards and improving development processes.
- Project management, ITIL, Agile, or relevant technical certifications.
Physical Requirements:- Ability to perform tasks while in a sedentary position using a computer and phone.
