What is a Business Analyst- Customer Billing?

The Customer Billing team is responsible for the accurate billing of customers. Through the Customer Information System (CIS), Customer Billing also tracks the transactions of meters. Team members work closely with many areas of the company including Customer Service, Cost & Rate, and Information Technology.

What does a Business Analyst- Customer Billing do?

  • Tests and implements billing changes related to rate cases and any billing changes that may be ordered by the New York State Public Service Commission

  • Trains employees regarding any new billing changes

  • Completes data analysis related to billing issues noted, including assessing impacts, assisting with root cause analysis and proposed resolutions, and implementing changes to address

  • Coordinates testing process related to assigning testing, tracking progress, and providing status updates

  • Assists with other data analysis requests to identify opportunities for efficiency and optimization

  • Completes monthly and quarterly reporting (preparation and verification), as well as various tasks related to the annual reporting process

  • Assists internal and external auditors with questions and requests as they pertain to billing

  • Provides support for storm restoration efforts

What does it take to be a Billing Analyst- Customer Billing?

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Data Analytics, or related field of study. In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, an associate’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Data Analytics, or related field of study and 3 years of related experience in billing, data analytics, finance or related field of study

  • Proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to learn new computer software programs quickly

  • Strong analytical skills, including ability to proficiently perform data analysis to assess issues and drive business resolutions

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with internal customers in an interactive team environment

  • Ability to work in a deadline-oriented, fast paced environment

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask

  • Well-developed written/verbal communication skills

  • Strong documentation skills

  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Data Analytics, STEM, or related field of study.

  • SAP ISU operational business experience or experience with SAP Financial/Billing Systems

  • Working knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley

  • Experience in the regulated Utility industry
