Full Job Description
As the Building Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible to ensure safe, durable and efficiently operable City owned building infrastructure, including fire halls, recreation facilities, transit garages, park facilities, community associations, maintenance workshops, and office buildings. This position performs thorough investigations, design review and engineering advice on building electrical systems, including main electrical service, power distribution service, lighting, fire alarm, communications systems, and emergency power. Primary duties include: • Provide electrical engineering design reviews and comments to business unit owners, project managers, facility operators, and external consultants to ensure the electrical design meets the owner requirements with respect to system appropriateness, energy efficiency, maintainability, completeness, durability and capital and life cycle costs. • Assist with the maintenance and development of engineering design guidelines for City owned building infrastructure, including evaluation and incorporation of best practices, new technologies, appropriate codes, and owner requirements with respect to building electrical. • Provide electrical engineering advice on existing and new building infrastructures, to maintain, repair and preserve City owned facilities managed by The City, civic partners or community groups. • Collaborate with internal City departments and external consultants, including briefings, committees and project meetings as required. • Help business units manage facility condition assessments and lifecycle planning processes, including external consultant engagement and reviewing quality assurance reports. Qualifications • A degree in Electrical Engineering and at least 4 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. designation and current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work. Click here for more details . • A valid Class 5 Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalent) and the use of a personal vehicle for business purposes. • Experience in the design and construction of building electrical infrastructure, preferably in a consulting engineering firm, is required. • Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited professional designation will be considered an asset. • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to demonstrate a consultative and collaborative approach.
