JLL - Building Controls Manager (P4)

Location: Round Rock, TX 78682

Work Schedule: Onsite, M-F 8:00 AM-5:00 PM

What this job involves:

As a Building Controls Manager at JLL, you will support the design, implementation, and optimization of building automation and control systems across a diverse portfolio of commercial properties. In this role, you'll serve as the technical expert and strategic partner, ensuring that HVAC, lighting, and energy management systems operate at peak performance while delivering measurable cost savings and sustainability outcomes for our clients. You'll collaborate closely with engineering teams, facility managers, and external vendors to develop control strategies that enhance occupant comfort, reduce energy consumption, and extend equipment lifespan. What your day-to-day will look like:
  • Oversee the programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting of building automation systems (BAS) including DDC controls, HVAC sequences, and energy management platforms to include OPC (DMZ), Power Management Expert (PME), Johnson Metasys System, SQL database and other BAS systems in use.
  • Develop and implement control strategies that optimize energy efficiency, indoor air quality, and system reliability across multiple facilities including Alarm verification, prioritization, resource management, failover sequencing, and dashboard/GUI experience.
  • Lead technical assessments and audits to identify opportunities for control system upgrades, retrofits, and performance improvements. Support review of Modbus Gateway Communication, Dashboard Capacity/Load Reporting and create comprehensive reports for review.
  • Manage relationships with controls vendors, contractors, and service providers to ensure quality delivery and adherence to project timelines. Review contractual obligations of vendors.
  • Analyze trend data and system performance metrics to diagnose issues, validate energy savings, and recommend corrective actions. Manage collection of energy use data.
  • Prepare technical documentation including control narratives, sequence of operations, points lists, and commissioning reports.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to engineering staff and building operators on controls best practices and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Support capital planning initiatives by evaluating building systems, estimating project costs, and developing scope documents for controls-related projects.
  • Collaborate with sustainability and operations teams to support decarbonization goals and integrate renewable energy systems with existing controls infrastructure including Energy management projects/initiatives, Vulnerability/Cybersecurity compliance programs and OptiPlex Computing/energy management/controls strategy.


Required qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Automation, or related technical field
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in building automation systems, HVAC controls, or energy management with at least 3 years in a leadership or management capacity
  • Demonstrated expertise with major BAS platforms such as Johnson Controls Metasys, Siemens Desigo, Schneider Electric, Tridium Niagara, or Honeywell
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, psychrometrics, control theory, and mechanical equipment operation
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and control system architecture diagrams. Experience in creating Visio drawings.
  • Experience with energy analysis tools, trending software, and data visualization platforms
  • Proven track record of managing complex projects including budgeting, scheduling, and vendor coordination
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences and prepare executive-level reports


Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience with advanced control strategies including demand response, predictive maintenance, and machine learning applications
  • Knowledge of building decarbonization strategies, electrification, and integration of renewable energy systems
  • Familiarity with commissioning processes and LEED, WELL, or other green building certification standards
  • Experience working in mission-critical environments such as data centers, healthcare facilities, or laboratory spaces
  • Background in IoT platforms, cloud-based building management systems, and cybersecurity best practices for operational technology
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Certified Energy Manager (CEM) designation
