DescriptionGPI is seeking an experienced
Bridge Inspection Team Leader to join our Bridgewater, NJ office. This role offers the opportunity to lead bridge condition inspection assignments for state, county, municipal, and transportation agency clients primarily in New Jersey, with opportunities for travel to other states. You will work alongside accomplished structural and transportation professionals on various bridge condition inspection projects. GPI's bridge practice supports critical infrastructure projects and follows FHWA and agency-specific bridge inspection requirements.
Responsibilities:- Lead inspection teams for routine, in-depth, NSTM, and ancillary structure inspections.
- Plan, coordinate, and perform field inspections of bridges and related structures.
- Prepare inspection reports, field documentation, and maintenance and repair recommendations.
- Review bridge condition assessments and develop repair and rehabilitation recommendations.
- Coordinate with project managers and agency representatives.
- Mentor and oversee assistant team leaders and inspectors.
- Ensure compliance with GPI and agency-specific safety requirements.
- Assist with project scheduling, budget management, and quality control.
- Assist with marketing, client maintenance, and proposal development.
Qualifications:- Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- 6-10 years of bridge inspection experience.
- NBIS Team Leader qualifications are required.
- New Jersey PE license or the ability to obtain is preferred.
- Knowledge of NJDOT, NJTA, and FHWA bridge inspection standards and procedures.
- Experience with PANYNJ, DRPA, and DRJTBC is desirable.
- Ability to perform field inspections, including climbing and working at heights.
- SPRAT (rope access) certification is preferred.
- Possess strong technical writing and communication skills.
Requirements- Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration
- Possess a personal vehicle for use on or around a job site
- Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language
- Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members
- Able to stand for approximately 3 hours minimum a day up to 8 hours
- Able to traverse a construction job site consisting of uneven ground varying in height and consistency of material, with a variation of elevation 19" or less (mud, gravel, rutted ground, etc.)
- Able to climb and leave a ladder to a platform varying from 6' to 20'
- Able to operate a mechanical aerial lift or bucket truck up to a height of 100 feet
- Able to wear and operate personal fall arresting apparatus, and work at a height of 6' or higher
- Able to wear GPI required PPE, i.e., hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and/or safety glasses/goggles while working
