The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Project Delivery - Bridge Design, is looking for a Bridge Engineer (Engineer 1 / Technical Engineer 1) to help us Keep Alaska Moving!

What you will be doing:
This professional engineering position specializes in the design and analysis of bridges and other transportation structures. The AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and of the AASHTO Guide Specifications for LRFD Seismic Bridge Designare used frequently for this work. Additionally, this statewide technical engineering specialist develops and applies bridge engineering techniques, approaches, and procedures. This position may perform federally mandated bridge inspections on an intermittent basis throughout the state ensuring structural adequacy and public safety.

Who we are looking for:
To be successful in this position, the selected applicant will possess the following core competencies:

• Structural Engineering: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods related to the design and analysis of complex structures using a variety of materials. Structures may include aerospace systems or structures, and other determinate or indeterminate systems.
• Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one's knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.
• Written Communication: Writes in a clear, concise, organized, and convincing manner for the intended audience.
• Design: Knowledge of conceptualizing, developing, producing, understanding, and using plans, models, blueprints, and maps, including the use of tools and instruments to produce precision technical drawings, working prototypes, components, or systems.

Special Note:

• State of Alaska Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors - Registration as a Professional Civil or Structural Engineer.
• Physical ability to descend / ascend bridge embankments and riverbanks.

Minimum Qualifications

Engineer / Architect 1
Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect.

Note: Positions in this class require professional registration as either an Engineer or an Architect. The employer will designate which professional field is required for each position.

Special Note:
Persons not registered in the State of Alaska must be registered in a state recognized by the State Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors eligible for comity in accordance with AS 08.48.191(b). Persons employed under this provision must become registered in Alaska within one year of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.

Technical Engineer 1 / Architect 1

Registration as a professional engineer (PE) or professional architect, and two years of professional engineering or architectural experience as an Engineer 1, Architectural Assistant 3 or higher with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent elsewhere.

FLEXIBLY STAFFED
This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at either the Engineer/Architect 1 or Technical Engineer 1 level, depending on the applicant's training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level the position is hired at. If filled at the Engineer/ Architect 1 Level, promotion to the Technical Engineer 1 Level will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training, as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class.
