Purpose and Impact
The Brewing Supervisor is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of the brewing department to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production. This role provides leadership to hourly employees, coordinates resources to achieve production schedules, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and promotes a culture focused on safety, quality, customer service, and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
Production Operations & Team Leadership
Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of approximately 7–20 brewing employees to achieve production targets and operational objectives.
Plan and allocate labour, materials, and equipment to ensure production schedules are completed safely, efficiently, and on time.
Create and manage employee work schedules and validate employee timekeeping records.
Communicate brewing-related updates, issues, and production performance to employees and management.
Health, Safety & Compliance
Promote and maintain a safe and healthy workplace by identifying hazards and implementing corrective actions.
Lead incident investigations for injuries, near misses, and property damage and support the implementation of preventative measures.
Perform health and safety audits, 5S inspections, and ensure housekeeping standards are maintained.
Ensure compliance with company policies, legislative requirements, and the collective agreement.
Quality & Food Safety
Monitor brewing processes to ensure quality standards and production requirements are consistently achieved.
Partner with Quality Assurance to investigate and resolve quality concerns.
Support and promote the Food Safety Management System (FSMS) by ensuring employees follow food safety requirements and best practices.
Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement related to quality and food safety.
Continuous Improvement & Operational Excellence
Collaborate with maintenance teams to maximize equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
Review and update standard operating procedures and recommend process improvements.
Support the deployment of continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, efficiency, quality, and employee engagement.
Work collaboratively with managers and peers to implement operational improvements across brewing operations.
People Development & Performance Management
Establish performance expectations aligned with brewery and departmental goals.
Provide coaching, performance feedback, and development opportunities for direct reports.
Identify training needs and partner with Human Resources and management to ensure effective training delivery.
Manage attendance, performance, and disciplinary matters in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Inventory & Materials Management
Order brewing-specific raw materials as required to support production.
Support inventory control activities and assist with month-end raw material counts.
Coordinate with Supply Chain and Production Planning teams regarding material requirements and schedule changes.
Skills and Qualifications (Required)
Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably within brewing, food, or beverage production.
Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience leading frontline manufacturing teams.
Secondary school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Working knowledge of quality assurance principles, good manufacturing practices, and food safety standards.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage employees at all levels.
Demonstrated experience in employee engagement, coaching, attendance management, and performance management.
Proven ability to prioritize competing demands and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Working knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and regulatory requirements.
Work Environment (Hybrid/Onsite)
Onsite – This position is based in a manufacturing environment and requires regular presence in the brewery. Incumbents must be able to work rotating shifts where applicable and are required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) while in manufacturing areas.
On call support for 24/7 brewery operations.
