Responsibilities:
As an A&D Investment Banking Engineer / Data Scientist / Geoscientist at BMO Capital Markets, you will gain valuable exposure to a wide number of investment banking mandates including but not limited to mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and other financial advisory mandates. Responsibilities may include:
- Play a key role in the preparation and execution of technical evaluations, economic performance analysis, reservoir and asset descriptions, upside identification and other complex data analysis workflows.
- Assist in generating and presenting pitch materials, management presentations, and content summarizing broader Energy industry trends.
- Integrate information from multiple sources to enable more efficient processes, enhanced analysis and/or streamlined reporting using SQL, Python, R, Spotfire, or Excel VBA
- Develop analysis and project execution strategies and make recommendations based on an understanding of business fundamentals and stakeholder needs.
- Drive client solutions through team collaboration, technical knowledge, and economic analysis.
- Support the execution of strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Consider risk, internal controls, and compliance as part of day-to-day accountabilities and adhere to policies and procedures.
This position is located in Calgary, Alberta and ideally suited to talented, highly motivated individuals who seek to build a solid, comprehensive foundation in the basic skills of energy investment banking utilizing a technical background.
Qualifications:
As an A&D Analyst / Data Scientist / Geoscientist you will be part of a dynamic investment banking environment. We are looking for highly motivated, mature individuals with:
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program studying engineering or computer science, graduating in December 2026 or Spring 2027.
- Proven track record of excellent academic standing, extra curricular participation and demonstrated interest in finance
- Excellent analytical skills that can be utilized for data analysis and interpretation.
- Strong interpersonal skills used within a demanding team environment.
- Ability to attentively review, assess and provide detailed information daily on multiple projects in an organized manner.
- Excellent capacity to independently function as part of a team through self-motivation.
- Strong work ethic
- A high level of integrity
- Advanced experience with Microsoft Excel and Power Point
- Preference will be given to those students in their third or fourth years of study with previous co-op experience.
- Familiarity with the Energy industry and industry specific software including Val Nav, Mosiac, Enersight, Aries, geoSCOUT, Enverus Prism, and Accumap considered an asset but not required.
Eligibility criteria:
- You are a student at an accredited Canadian Post Secondary Institution/University, currently enrolled in an undergraduate program with a graduation date of December 2027 or Spring 2028
- You are able to work Full-time starting in July 2027
- Proven track record of excellent academic standing, extra curricular participation and demonstrated interest in finance
- You are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident of Canada, or an individual who is legally authorized to work in Canada and will not require sponsorship in the future

Qualifications:
- Typically between 3 - 5 years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- An undergraduate degree with academic coursework in finance, economics, or accounting and an outstanding academic achievement.
- Financial analysis training and experience.
- 0 - 3 years of successive relevant experience within investment and/or corporate banking experience based on business requirements.
- Highly skilled in building complex financial models.
- Expertise in financial computer applications and database management tools.
- Skilled in creating statistical presentations.
- Specialized knowledge from education and/or business experience.

Salaried
The above represents BMO Financial Group9s pay range and type.
Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group9s expected target for the first year in this position.
