Job Description

Direct and coordinate the day-to-day operations of the Bindery department to meet production
schedules, quality standards, and safety goals. This role requires a balance of technical oversight
and team leadership to motivate staff, optimize equipment utilization, and ensure efficient workflow
across all shifts.

1st Shift

Responsibilities:
  • Production Leadership: Direct bindery activities to meet customer specifications regarding
    quality, quantity, and delivery. Monitor machine output, productivity, and waste levels to
    ensure operational goals are met.
  • Operational Oversight: Develop and implement daily work assignments and schedules.
    Coordinate with other departments to ensure materials are available and workflow is
    seamless.
  • Quality Assurance: Provide guidance on initial samples and conduct spot-checks during
    production runs. Actively troubleshoot technical problems to minimize downtime and
    prevent non-conforming product.
  • Team Development: Motivate staff and facilitate training programs to build individual skills
    and improve departmental efficiency. Provide recommendations for hiring, performance
    evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
  • Safety & Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to safety policies and housekeeping
    standards. Promote a culture of safety awareness and ensure that all staff members are
    properly trained on safe operating procedures.
  • Communication: Maintain open and positive communication across all shifts. Participate in
    production planning meetings to report on job status and raise potential issues early.
  • Continuous Improvement: Foster a team-oriented environment and support the
    implementation of company-wide quality tools and efficiency initiatives.
  • Perform other related duties as required.


Qualifications
  • Experience: Minimum 5+ years of experience in a commercial bindery environment with exposure to multiple types of bindery equipment.
  • Leadership: At least 1 year of experience in a supervisory or lead role, with a demonstrated ability to manage people and direct work activities.
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree in Business, Manufacturing, or a related field preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Strong technical aptitude for bindery machinery and the ability to interpret complex work orders.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Flexibility: Must be willing and able to work multiple shifts, including nights, as required by production schedules.


Additional Information

RRD's current salary range for this role is $64,000 to $98,400 / year. The salary range may be adjusted based on the applicable geographic location of the hired employee, and the range may change in the future. At RRD, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions may vary based upon, but not limited to education, skills, experience, proficiency, performance, shift and location. Depending on the role, in addition to base salary, the total compensation package may also include participation in a bonus, commission or incentive program.
