Full Job Description
Requisition ID: 181550

Job Level: Mid Level

Home District/Group: Kiewit Industrial & Water Engineering

Department: Design Engineering

Market: Industrial

Employment Type: Full Time

Position Overview

Kiewit's project portfolio has grown substantially in scale, complexity, and geographic diversity, encompassing major infrastructure programs in heavy civil, power generation, industrial processing, transportation, and water systems. As project owners increasingly require digital delivery methods-including model-based design, coordinated federated models, 4D construction sequencing, and data-rich handover packages-the demands placed upon project teams to manage these digital workflows have expanded far beyond the capacity of incidental or distributed responsibility. The absence of dedicated BIM leadership on large-scale projects has been identified as a recurring gap that affects coordination quality, schedule performance, and the ability to meet contractual digital deliverable requirements.

We are hiring dedicated BIM Managers to bridge the gap between engineering design intent and field construction operations. This role will serve as the central technical authority for all model-related activities on assigned projects, coordinating across disciplines including civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and process to ensure that models are accurate, current, and actively driving construction decisions. Without this function, project teams are left to manage increasingly complex model environments without consistent governance, leading to undetected clashes, redundant RFIs, and field rework that erodes schedule and budget performance.

This position reflects Kiewit's commitment to digital transformation and positions the organization to compete more effectively on technically demanding pursuits where BIM competency is an evaluated selection criterion. By embedding structured BIM leadership at the project level, Kiewit will improve delivery outcomes, reduce risk exposure, and build institutional knowledge that can be leveraged across future programs. This requisition requests executive authorization to fill the BIM Manager position with a highly qualified professional who can immediately contribute to active project delivery operations.

Location

This position can be based out of Lenexa Kansas, Lone Tree Colorado, or Houston Texas. We offer relocation assistance to Lenexa Kansas only. Candidates will be expected to travel occasionally to field projects or our headquarters in Lenexa, if based in other locations.

Responsibilities

The BIM Manager will be accountable for the following core responsibilities:
  • Develop, implement, and maintain project-specific BIM Execution Plans (BEPs) in alignment with owner requirements, Kiewit standards, and industry best practices.
  • Manage the federated project model environment, including model aggregation, clash detection workflows, issue tracking, and formal resolution coordination across all disciplines.
  • Lead and facilitate multi-discipline coordination meetings encompassing MEP, structural, civil, and architectural teams to resolve spatial conflicts and sequencing challenges ahead of field installation.
  • Establish, document, and enforce BIM standards, protocols, file naming conventions, model element classifications, and level of development (LOD) requirements for all project contributors.
  • Integrate BIM data into active construction workflows, including 4D scheduling simulations, 5D cost modeling, and digital field layout using total station or GPS-based layout tools.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, design-of-record engineers, specialty consultants, and owner representatives to ensure model interoperability and adherence to shared data environments.
  • Administer and optimize BIM software platforms, including Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Revit, Navisworks, Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and related tools across project teams.
  • Support the RFI and submittal processes by providing model-based visual documentation, interference exhibits, and design clarification packages to expedite resolution.
  • Develop and deliver BIM training, onboarding materials, and workflows for project engineering and field operations staff.
  • Conduct quality control reviews and periodic audits of model deliverables submitted by internal teams and external contributors, ensuring accuracy and contractual compliance.
  • Support the preparation of digital twin deliverables, Asset Information Models (AIM), and owner handover packages as required by project contract documents. Work with discipline leads to maintain consistency across projects, coordinate alternate approaches as project needs change.
  • Integrate third party libraries and tools into design and delivery workflows
  • Managing requirements as a stakeholder for any customizations, applications, functionality, or other aspects related to the integrated 3D model
  • Generate regular reports on BIM progress and performance for management review
  • Perform scheduled interdisciplinary clash detection
  • Acting as a stakeholder in managing requirements for downstream analytics from the PDW dataset, ensuring the creation of a cohesive narrative and unified project view
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest BIM technologies and industry trends. Identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement in BIM processes and tools.

Qualifications

Candidates must demonstrate the following minimum qualifications to be considered for this position:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive BIM management experience on large-scale infrastructure, industrial, heavy civil, or energy construction projects.
  • Advanced proficiency in the Autodesk platform, including Revit, Navisworks (Manage), AutoCAD, and Civil 3D.
  • Demonstrated experience administering and utilizing Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) and/or BIM 360 for common data environment (CDE) management and project collaboration.
  • Working knowledge of open BIM standards including IFC (Industry Foundation Classes), COBie (Construction Operations Building Information Exchange), and related data schemas.
  • Strong foundational understanding of construction sequencing, field operations, trade coordination, and general contracting processes.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with and provide leadership to multi-discipline teams, including engineers, project managers, field supervisors, and subcontractor representatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and critically evaluate engineering drawings, specifications, contract documents, and project technical requirements.
