Description The Human Resources Generalist supports company-wide HR initiatives across New York and New Jersey locations. This role provides guidance and support to managers and employees in payroll, employee relations, performance management, policy administration, compliance, employee engagement, leave administration, and workforce planning.
The HR Generalist works closely with the HR Manager and Recruitment Manager to ensure consistent employee experience across a workforce of approximately 530 employees, including both permanent and temporary employees.
This position plays a critical role in supporting front-line warehouse, transportation, and operations leadership while ensuring compliance with company policies and employment regulations.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesEmployee Relations - Serve as the primary HR contact for employees and supervisors.
- Address employee concerns and facilitate resolution of workplace issues.
- Conduct investigations involving policy violations, attendance concerns, workplace misconduct, and employee complaints.
- Provide coaching and guidance to managers regarding employee performance and behavioral issues.
- Support disciplinary processes and documentation.
Performance Management - Assist managers with performance evaluations and employee development planning.
- Support corrective action and performance improvement processes.
- Monitor probationary and introductory periods for new employees.
- Partner with leadership to identify employee development opportunities.
HR Operations & Compliance - Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
- Maintain employee personnel files and HR documentation.
- Support audits, compliance reviews, and recordkeeping requirements.
- Monitor compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Assist with unemployment claims, workers' compensation administration, and accommodations.
Workforce and Employee Support - Support employee engagement initiatives and recognition programs.
- Conduct stay interviews and assist with retention efforts.
- Facilitate employee meetings and communication programs.
- Provide guidance regarding benefits, policies, and available resources.
Leave and Benefits Administration - Assist employees with leave requests and documentation.
- Coordinate administration of FMLA, New York, New Jersey Paid Family Leave, ADA accommodations, COBRA and other leave programs.
- Support annual benefits enrollment activities.
- Partner with payroll and benefits providers to resolve employee issues.
Safety Partnership - Partner with Safety and Operations leadership to support a safe workplace culture.
- Support return-to-work processes for injured employees.
Training and Development - Coordinate and facilitate HR-related training programs.
- Support policy, harassment prevention, safety, and compliance training.
- Assist with management training initiatives.
Collaboration Across Locations - Work closely with the HR Manager on employee relations and compliance matters.
- Coordinate with the Newark Recruitment team regarding workforce needs and staffing trends.
- Support company-wide HR initiatives and special projects.
Payroll Processing - Assist the HR manager with weekly payroll processing
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries on garnishment, union, health insurance deductions etc.
- Assist the HR manager with billing reconciliation

Position Human Resources Generalist
Position Requirements - Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred
- 3-5 years of Human Resources Generalist experience.
- Bilingual in Spanish Required
- Experience supporting warehouse, logistics, transportation, manufacturing, or food distribution operations is strongly preferred.
- Experience conducting employee relations investigations.
- Experience supporting multi-site operations preferred.
Knowledge and Skills - Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HRIS systems.
- Strong knowledge of employment law and HR best practices.
- Knowledge of FMLA, ADA, FLSA, workers' compensation, and employee relations practices.
- Strong conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work independently with limited day-to-day supervision.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to travel approximately 10% -20% to Newark NJ and Rochester NY.
