Job Duties and Preferred Qualifications:

The City of Virginia Beach Department of Human Services is eagerly seeking to hire an experienced and licensed candidate to work in our Veteran Services Program providing clinical services to adults diagnosed with mental health, substance use and co-occurring disorders for service members, veterans', and family members.

A $4,000 hiring bonus** is being offered for this position.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide evidence-based, trauma-informed clinical services to service members, veterans, and their adult family members (SMVF) diagnosed with mental health, substance use and co-occurring disorders.
  • Develop and maintain clear, quantified service plans, individualized to client problem/needs, goals and objectives in format approved by the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Department.
  • Perform ongoing clinical assessments, crisis intervention and group, individual, and family counseling.
  • Provide limited case management services with referral for more in-depth targeted case management.
  • Report all clinical and administrative functions via electronic health record (EHR) and computer/paper reporting mechanisms.
  • Serve on committees, take on projects, and fill in administrative functions as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Provide clinical documentation and assure that all filing of clinical information and submission of billing information are done accurately and within the time frame required.


Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00am - 4:30pm, and some varied evenings

Must be registered with the Virginia Board of Counseling as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Psychologist, (LCP)Licensed Marriage Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Mental Health Professional (LMHP).

**Hiring bonuses shall only be for new hires of original employment or re-employment as defined in Human Resources Policy No. 5.0.
  • $1,000 will be awarded in the first paycheck.
  • $1,250 will be awarded upon completion of the six (6) month interim performance evaluation with an overall rating of "Meets Expectations".
  • $1,750 will be awarded upon completion of the employee's one (1) year probationary period and a performance evaluation with an overall rating of "Meets Expectations".


Preferences:
  • Five (5) or more years' experience working with adults with severe SMI, SUD and or co-occurring disorders.
  • Experience in crisis intervention and assessment, treatment planning and care coordination.
  • Experience with triage and completing a rapid initial differential diagnosis and level of care.
  • Experience providing individual and group services utilizing evidence-based treatment approach.
  • Experience with HIPPA requirements including 42 CFR Part 2 compliance.
  • Extensive experience with computer skills, virtual technology eg: , WebEx, Doxy Me, Google duo.

Minimum Requirements:

MINIMUMS: Requires a Bachelors degree in a human services field (such as psychology, behavioral or mental health, special education, social work) and five (5) years of experience associated with such positions as clinician, counselor, therapist, social worker, psychologist or psychiatric nurse OR any combination of education (above the high school level) and/or experience equivalent to nine (9) years associated with such positions as clinician, counselor, therapist, social worker, psychologist or psychiatric nurse.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be registered with the Virginia Board of Counseling as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Psychologist, (LCP)Licensed Marriage Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Mental Health Professional (LMHP). All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
