Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced BGA Rework Technician for a direct hire opportunity in Livermore, CA. This role is ideal for a skilled electronics repair professional who takes pride in precise, clean, high-quality board-level work.
This is not a production line position. You will be the go-to BGA expert on the team, taking ownership of the BGA rework station, maintaining equipment readiness, supporting high-reliability electronics repair, and helping train other technicians. You will work in an established electronics manufacturing environment with steady, meaningful work, strong quality standards, and a collaborative technical team that values craftsmanship, accuracy, and accountability.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform board-level repair on electronic assemblies, including SMT and through-hole component removal and replacement under a microscope.
- Complete BGA removal, site preparation, reballing, replacement, and inspection using approved processes and thermal profiles.
- Repair pads, traces, connectors, sockets, and jumper wires while maintaining high workmanship standards.
- Maintain, calibrate, and prepare BGA rework equipment to ensure consistent performance and readiness.
- Inspect, clean, document, and prepare repaired boards for retest with clear records of findings, parts replaced, and results.
- Train other technicians on BGA rework methods and assist with cables, harnesses, and fixtures as needed.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range: $75,000 to $90,000 per year.
- Direct hire opportunity.
- Location: Livermore, CA.
- Onsite: 4 days a week (M-Th-10 hours)

Required Qualifications and Skills
- Own and operate the BGA rework capability for board-level electronics repair.
- Perform precise BGA removal, reballing, replacement, site prep, and inspection.
- Support high-reliability electronic assembly repair, documentation, and retest readiness.
- Train technicians on BGA rework procedures and best practices.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant electronics rework, repair, or manufacturing experience.
- Hands-on BGA rework experience, including removal, reballing, and replacement.
- Strong fine-pitch SMT and through-hole soldering skills.
- Experience using microscopes, hot air rework stations, preheaters, and related rework tools.
- Ability to read schematics, assembly drawings, work instructions, and repair documentation.
- Careful documentation habits with the ability to clearly record findings, repairs, replaced parts, and results.
- Technical certificate, associate degree, military electronics training, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Detail-oriented work style with strong ownership, patience, precision, and commitment to quality.
Preferred Qualifications
- IPC-7711/7721, J-STD-001, or IPC-A-610 certification.
- Experience with dedicated BGA rework stations such as SRT, PACE, Finetech, ERSA, or similar systems.
- Thermal profiling experience.
- X-ray inspection experience.
- Background in aerospace, defense, medical device, or other high-reliability electronics environments.
- Experience training other technicians.
- Military electronics repair background, including Navy 2M or micro-miniature repair experience.
