Full-time (80 hours biweekly) Weekdays, daytime hours Program Description: This position centers on behavioral science education and advancing a biopsychosocial approach to patient care-an essential component of training well-rounded family physicians. General Summary Develops and coordinates the implementation of a curriculum in Psychiatry and Behavioral Science for the Family Practice Residency Program. Responsibilities Duties and Responsibilities Essential Functions: • Develops and coordinates the implementation of a curriculum in Psychiatry and Behavioral Science for the Family Medicine Residency Program. This curriculum must meet the "Essentials" for Family Practice residency training as outlined by the RRC of the ACGME. • Teaches patient-centered interviewing and office-based counseling skills through direct observation and supervision which may include videotape review and critique of doctor-patient encounters. • Instructs residents and medical students in the assessment and management of psychological disorders and conditions commonly encountered in primary care, promotes awareness of behavioral health community resources and assists with referrals. • Coordinates/conducts behavioral science lectures. • Leads or facilitates support groups and Balint seminars for residents. • Oversees use of standardized patients for competency acquisition and assessment. Assists in the development of new standardized patient scenarios as necessary for the acquisition of necessary skill sets in doctor-patient communication. • Advises physician faculty in the development and implementation of remedial interventions for identified residents. Qualifications Qualifications Minimum Education: • Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) In Psychology. Required or • Doctorate In Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling or Human Service Field. Required Work Experience: • 3 years behavioral science, family therapy, or psychology experience. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: • Excellent written and oral communications and interpersonal skills. • Teaching skills.
