Job Title - Behavioral Health Clinician II - Psychotherapy

Work Schedule - Day Shift - Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm and one evening required. (Flexibility for evening scheduling)

JOB SUMMARY: Behavioral Health Clinician II's act as an extension of the psychiatric provider. Regardless of acute psychiatric treatment setting, the BHC, working in collaboration with the behavioral health team, medical team, and community stakeholders, is responsible for completing: Psychosocial assessments, developing treatment plans, monitoring patient progress towards treatment goals, and crisis de-escalation. Works independently to apply knowledge of diagnostic criteria to evaluate and recommend appropriate level of care for behavioral health patients.

One goal of all services facilitated by the BHC is to give psychiatric providers necessary information to finalize dispositions, as relevant to patient needs. BHC II's work with diverse populations, age groups, and diagnoses. Serves as primary educator on topics of mental illness/mental health to patients and/or family members. Responsible for facilitating patient-centered, trauma-informed brief individual therapy, family therapy, and group therapy within the acute care setting, when indicated. Initiates coordination of discharge and aftercare services, as needed.

JOB TASK LIST

1. Completes comprehensive, trauma-informed psychosocial assessments for clients of all ages (depending on program guidelines), formulating diagnoses utilizing DSM-V criteria; development of treatment plans and discharge plans in accordance with state and federal guidelines within timeframe established by program policy and procedures.

2. Provides risk assessment/intervention as needed, determining most appropriate level of care.

3. Provides short-term, brief, and crisis-oriented psychotherapy to individuals/families/groups as dictated by client needs.

4. Provides psychiatric case management services, including but not limited to: Coordination of care with outpatient providers, assistance with application for entitlements and social services, resource linkage, and referrals to other services as needed.

5. Participates in ongoing consultation with treatment team including group rounds, clinical reviews, and supervision.

6. Maintains all documentation and charting requirements on all client encounters and services in accordance with program policy and procedures

7. Identifies and prioritizes insurance reviews with communication to payors using demonstrated knowledge of utilization review. Documentation and tracking of authorizations as needed with assistance from utilization review coordinator/team members

8. Establishes an effective, patient-centered, trauma-informed means of communicating and collaborating with clients, physicians/providers, counseling team members, payors, and administrators to ensure safe and efficient services. Effectively utilizes Motivational Interviewing techniques and AIDET communication models.

9. Demonstrates willingness and ability to function as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in provision of services to diverse populations.

10. Assists in providing and maintaining behavioral health education materials.

11. Assures continuity of care through communication/collaboration with community stakeholders and providers.

12. Remains informed of the latest treatment modalities and is familiar with utilization of trauma-informed practices, cognitive behavioral and dialectical therapeutic interventions.

13. Participates in quality assurance activities, data collection, and internal committees as determined necessary.

14. Assist with training of new team members and students/interns, as needed

15. Demonstrates self-directed learning behaviors to maintain and improve clinical competence.

16. Performs additional duties as assigned.

Work Experience

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Education & Training: Master's Degree in Human Services (i.e., Social Work, Professional Counseling, etc.) required. Licensed as an LCSW-C or LCPC in the state of Maryland required.

Work Orientation & Experience: Minimum two (2) years' of previous experience required. Previous experience working with individuals with acute and chronic mental illness in an acute care psychiatric setting preferred.

Skills & Abilities: Demonstrate knowledge/skills of behavioral health clinical practice in a variety of settings: a.) Completing psychosocial assessments; b) provision of trauma-informed individual, group, and family therapy services; c.) developing and implementing discharge and aftercare plans; d) coordinating services for patient/family with community providers including knowledge of community resources, Medicare/Medicaid and commercial insurances; e.) knowledge of state and federal regulations as it pertains to scope of clinical practice in multiple settings; f.) effective critical thinking; g.) professional and effective written and verbal communication; h.) prioritize work assignments and manage time effectively to complete duties; and i.) work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to a) communicate and collaborate effectively with both internal and external partners (i.e., behavioral health team, medical team, community stakeholders and patients/families); b) assess, adapt, and calmly respond to changing and/or crisis environment; c) make independent decisions consistent with current policies, procedures, health care and ethical standards; and d) be available to adapt hours to meet the needs of partners.
