The High Volume Battery Pack Assembly Process Supervisor provides direct leadership, technical guidance, and execution oversight for a team of manufacturing engineers. Reporting to the LL5 Battery Pack Assembly Manufacturing Engineering Manager, this role is responsible for translating strategic manufacturing standards into operational success across the entire value stream-from product concept and Simultaneous Engineering through equipment runoff, installation, commissioning, and Rate of Climb (RoC).

As a key leader in our skills-based organization, you will oversee the deployment of advanced assembly technologies, drive launch excellence, manage supplier deliverables, and mentor engineers to build Ford's battery manufacturing capability.

Responsibilities

1. Team Leadership & People Development
  • Lead, mentor, and leverage a skills-based team of manufacturing engineers to design, run off, install, and launch high-volume battery pack assembly systems.
  • Conduct Performance Review assessments, support Individual Development Plans (IDPs), and champion technical training to grow future technical leaders.
  • Drive bureaucracy reduction by empowering the engineering team to make agile, data-driven technical decisions.

2. Pack & Program Manufacturing Engineering Execution
  • Provide and drive Design for Assembly / Design for Manufacturing (DFA/DFM) inputs to Product Development (PD) during early concept and feasibility studies.
  • Deliver on Core Program Team requirements, including OneSpot/Functional Specifications, process sheets, build sequences, and equipment takt time.
  • Supervise the design, procurement, and integration of assembly stations, transport systems (conveyance, robotics, material handling), and test equipment.
  • Coordinate make-like-production and machine tryout part procurement strategies to support physical build phases.

3. Quality, Safety, & Process Governance
  • Develop and govern PFMEAs, and collaborate with Product Development to complete Safety and Critical Characteristics Association Forms (SCCAFs) and Control Plans (DCP).
  • Ensure rigorous alignment with Bill of Process (BoP), Equipment Standard (E2KS), and Manufacturing Delivery/Program Standards (MDS/MPS).
  • Oversee the implementation of GD&T, dimensional stack-up analysis, vision systems, error-proofing, and end-to-end component traceability.
  • Support MIDAS deliverables for equipment validation and lead issue resolution (PDCA) from builds through the Rate of Climb (RoC).

4. Advanced Manufacturing, Digital Validation, & Joining Technologies
  • Lead Simultaneous Engineering (SE) and Digital Job 1 (Virtual Validation) activities, utilizing simulation, digital line validation, and virtual commissioning.
  • Oversee Industrial Engineering deliverables, including cycle line layouts, facilities layouts, labor modeling, and throughput optimization.
  • Provide technical oversight for specialized joining processes, including fastening (bolt feeders/feed systems), adhesives/sealants (dispense systems), welding, and riveting.

5. Supplier & Commercial Management
  • Develop robust Statements of Work (SOW) and Enquiry Specifications for initial Purchase Orders (POs) covering equipment Design and Build.
  • Lead supplier technical reviews, quoting recaps, and support PO readiness in partnership with Purchasing.
  • Manage OEM runoff, installation planning, on-site commissioning, and final capability demonstrations, ensuring suppliers deliver to Ford standards.
  • Support cost study submissions and incorporate program lessons learned into future process developments.
  • Travel outside of the Southeast Michigan region as required to support supplier runoffs and plant launches.


Qualifications

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related).
  • 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in assembly, automation-intensive, or launch environments.
  • 1+ years of experience leading, supervising, or mentoring technical engineering teams or project groups.

Preferred Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial) or Business (MBA).
  • Direct experience launching greenfield, brownfield, or major retool battery module or battery pack assembly manufacturing facilities.
  • Strong understanding of automated assembly systems, conveyance, and robotics.
  • Deep technical proficiency in joining technologies (adhesives, sealants, fastening, welding).
  • Demonstrated experience with virtual engineering tools, simulation, virtual commissioning, AutoCAD, TeamCenter, and Aurora.
  • Proven familiarity with Ford BME governance, DPA5 engineering workflows, and MDS/MPS.
  • Transmission/Engine Assembly experience, understanding of Industrial Engineering and ergonomic principles, experience in Program Delivery preferred
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with validated project management and supplier escalation capabilities.

This position is leadership level 6 and ranges from $115,500-$218,100.

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
