Job Summary

The Team
The Chilliwack Natural Resource District is a team of around 25 staff (both technical and professional) with expertise in forest and natural resource management. As part of the new district management team, you will collaborate with stakeholders both internal and external to government to support the stewardship of natural resources. The diverse skills and commitment of our district team are valued, making a meaningful impact within our community and beyond.

The Role
This position oversees the forest tenures and engineering departments and is accountable for managing the delivery of district operations. In this role, you will ensure program delivery is consistent with ministry priorities and objectives, and legislative requirements. It oversees a team of 12, comprised of professional, technical, and administrative staff. You will direct the management of resource roads, adjudication of forest tenures and harvest authorizations across the district, and the allocation of funding to support district operations. This position plays a key role in delivering sustainable forest management within the district while also maintaining partnerships with First Nations and local stakeholders.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

• Diploma or higher in Natural Resource Management or in a related field, and five (5) years of directly related experience.
  • Directly related experience is defined as experience in natural resource management within one or more of the following disciplines: forest tenures, forest stewardship, range, forest engineering, water, lands, corporate services, wildfire management, First Nations and land information management.
• Two (2) years' experience developing and maintaining working relationships and resolving problems with stakeholders and partners in natural resource management.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
• Must possess and maintain a valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence (or equivalent).

Preference may be given to those with one or more of the following:

• Experience in operational management of forest and land resources. Examples of operational management include field work, prescriptions, authorization, or review of natural resource applications.
• Recent experience (within the last 5 years) in human resource management, including direct supervision, and in leading and coaching diverse teams.
• Two (2) years' experience managing a program.
• Program administration experience including allocating resources, budget management and business planning.
• Candidates who are (or are immediately eligible for registration) a Registered Professional Forester, Registered Forest Technologist, or other related professional designation.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home up to 2 days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
