Full Job Description
Balance of Plant (BOP) team within Facilities Reliability & Integrity (FR&I) Engineering Services comprises senior engineering subject matter experts with deep technical expertise in systems and equipment critical to gas facility operations beyond the prime mover. The team includes Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil engineering SMEs and is accountable for four key areas: engineering standards and technical governance, Tier 3 engineering support to Operations Engineering, asset management and maintenance strategy development, and project engineering support.

The BOP team is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with extensive industry experience and deep technical expertise in gas facility mechanical systems and equipment. This role provides a unique opportunity to influence engineering standards, improve asset reliability, support operational excellence, and drive continuous improvement across TC Energy's facilities portfolio.

What You'll Do

Technical Authority & Governance
  • Serve as TC Energy's Technical Authority and subject matter expert (SME) for Balance of Plant (BOP) mechanical systems and equipment supporting compressor station and meter station assets
  • Act as the document owner for applicable engineering standards, driving the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of technical requirements based on operating experience, performance data, and lessons learned.
  • Evaluate and provide guidance on engineering standard variances and technical compliance matters
  • Maintain expertise in applicable regulations, industry codes, and standards, and represent TC Energy on targeted industry committees and professional associations
  • Establish evaluation criteria and provide technical oversight of service providers, suppliers, and vendors to ensure alignment with BOP engineering requirements

Operational Support & Asset Management
  • Provide Tier 3 engineering support to Operations Engineering for complex technical issues, significant asset performance concerns, incident investigations, and cross-functional challenges
  • Support the development of General Plant Maintenance Capital (GPMC) programs by providing SME guidance on asset strategies, risk assessments, optimization opportunities, and investment decisions
  • Develop and oversee asset management and maintenance strategies that optimize reliability, risk, lifecycle performance, and cost
  • Maintain strategic relationships with equipment manufacturers, suppliers, and industry partners to support innovation, issue resolution, and long-term asset performance

Continuous Improvement & Project Support
  • Promote the sharing of best practices, lessons learned, emerging technologies, and improvement opportunities across the organization
  • Lead or support research and development initiatives focused on enhancing equipment performance, engineering standards, and reliability methodologies
  • Provide specialized engineering expertise on projects through design reviews, technical assessments, and strategic SME input during critical project phases

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive engineering experience in gas facilities, midstream operations, energy infrastructure, or a related industry
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards related to facilities engineering, including CFR 192, CSA Z662, ASME B31.3, ASME B31.8, ASME Section VIII, and API pressure equipment standards
  • Experience in asset management, reliability engineering, risk-based decision making, maintenance optimization, and condition-based maintenance practices
  • Experience developing, maintaining, and governing engineering standards, specifications, and procedures
  • Experience supporting engineering design, technical assurance, design oversight, and quality management activities
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse stakeholder groups throughout North America
  • Sound engineering judgment, strong problem-solving abilities, and a pragmatic approach to technical decision-making

Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) designation is considered an asset
  • Deep technical expertise in BOP mechanical systems and equipment, including experience supporting measurement and regulation facilities
  • Experience with modern condition monitoring technologies, predictive maintenance programs, and advanced analytical methods
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and resolve complex, ambiguous, and emerging engineering challenges
  • Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership
  • Strong stakeholder management, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Experience participating in technical committees, industry working groups, or standards development organizations
