Job Description:

As the Autonomy Designer (Scrum Master), you will collaborate with multiple Agile teams and leaders, supporting the successful delivery of MineStar® products and solutions within the Integrated Technology Solutions Group. These products are deployed across a broad range of mining equipment and digital platforms, leveraging technologies such as high-precision Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), sensors, wireless communications, cloud infrastructure, autonomous systems, and embedded software.

The Autonomy Designer (Scrum Master) will serve as a servant leader and Agile coach for one or more Scaled Agile (SAFe®) teams. This role is responsible for facilitating Agile ceremonies, enabling effective collaboration, driving continuous improvement, removing impediments, and helping teams deliver high-quality solutions that provide customer value. The Autonomy Engineer (Scrum Master) will partner closely with Product Owners, System Architects, Release Train Engineers (RTEs), Engineering Managers, and cross-functional stakeholders to support Program Increment (PI) execution and Agile maturity across the organization.

What You Will Do:
  • Facilitate sprint planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives to ensure effective and focused execution.
  • Support and prepare teams for Program Increment Planning and ensure alignment with program objectives.
  • Identify, track, and resolve blockers to maintain smooth and continuous delivery.
  • Coach the team on Agile principles and foster self-organization, ownership, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure adherence to Scrum framework, values, and best practices across the team and organization.
  • Collaborate with the Product Owner on backlog refinement, prioritization, and clarity of user stories.
  • Facilitate communication and alignment between team members and stakeholders to ensure transparency.
  • Protect the team from external distractions and unplanned work to maintain sprint focus.
  • Drive continuous improvement by leading retrospectives and implementing process enhancements.
  • Identify delivery risks and manage cross-team dependencies to keep work on track.
  • Monitor progress using delivery metrics (e.g., velocity, burndown) and provide visibility to stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time-to-time.

  • Software Development Life Cycle: Knowledge of software development life cycle; ability to use a structured methodology for delivering and managing new or enhanced software products to the marketplace.
  • Software Product Testing: Knowledge of software product testing; ability to design, plan, and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure software product quality and adherence to stated requirements.
  • Application Development Tools: Knowledge of application and system development; ability to utilize a variety of specific tools and toolkits for developing applications.
  • Artificial Intelligence: Knowledge of the concepts, technologies and methodologies of artificial intelligence (AI); ability to develop, implement and/or apply artificial intelligence products and services in specific industry domain to achieve business goals.
  • Programming: Knowledge of relevant programming languages and tools; ability to test, write, design, debug, troubleshoot and maintain source codes and computer programs.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application or operation.


What Will Set You Apart (Preferred Qualifications):
  • Agile Metrics and Continuous Improvement: Knowledge of Agile measurement techniques and continuous improvement practices; ability to evaluate team performance and drive operational excellence.
  • Communication and Stakeholder Management: Knowledge of communication strategies and stakeholder engagement techniques; ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working within SAFe Agile Release Trains supporting software, embedded software, autonomy, or digital product development teams.
  • Experience facilitating Program Increment (PI) Planning events and Inspect & Adapt workshops.
  • Experience coaching Product Owners and development teams in Agile best practices.
  • Familiarity with software development lifecycle (SDLC) and modern software engineering practices.
  • Experience using Agile management tools such as Azure DevOps or equivalent platforms.
  • Experience tracking Agile delivery metrics and reporting team performance indicators.
  • Knowledge of DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and Lean product development principles.
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering, software development, or embedded software environments.
  • Experience supporting geographically distributed and cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent facilitation, coaching, conflict resolution, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience participating in or leading Agile transformation initiatives.
  • Previous experience leading software and system development teams.
  • Previous experience with Product Development Lifecycle projects; understanding constraints and how to meet strategic goals through leadership and execution.
  • Leadership experience of teams in the Autonomous or Robotics industry including technical domain knowledge and awareness of customer challenges in this industry.
  • Knowledge of Construction/Mining industry.
