Job Summary: Our Automated Manufacturing Systems group builds custom automated equipment for medical device manufacturing - ranging from benchtop assembly aids to fully integrated production systems. We are a small, specialized team where each person owns their discipline end-to-end.
We are looking for an Electrical Designer or Electrical Engineer with at least 3-7 years of experience who can take ownership of electrical panel design and schematic documentation across multiple concurrent projects. From concept through build and commissioning, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including mechanical engineers, software developers, and quality assurance personnel to ensure that all electrical components meet safety, reliability, and performance criteria.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:• Develop detailed electrical schematics and panel layouts using EPLAN (preferred) or equivalent platform
• Design control panel assemblies including component selection, wire routing, DIN rail layout, and enclosure sizing
• Generate and maintain wiring harness documentation, BOM, and interconnect drawings
• Coordinate with engineers to ensure schematics accurately reflect PLC/HMI I/O and safety architecture
• Support panel builds and commissioning - be present on the floor, not just at your desk
• Work within an FDA-regulated environment; documentation must meet traceability and revision control standards
• Collaborate with procurement and fabrication vendors on component selection and lead times
Essential Qualifications:• A Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Automation Engineering and 3 years of experience; OR a two-year post high school diploma / certificate in a related field and technical trade and 7 years of experience.
• Proficiency in EPLAN Electric P8 - or demonstrated ability to transition from AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, or similar
• Solid understanding of power and control circuit design, motor control, and safety relay circuits
• Experience sizing and selecting control panel components (breakers, contactors, drives, I/O modules)
• Familiarity with NEC, NFPA 79, and UL 508A standards
• Able to read and mark up mechanical drawings to coordinate enclosure mounting and cable routing
• Strong documentation habits - clean, revision-controlled, self-explanatory drawings
Desirable Qualifications:• Experience in a medical device or similarly regulated manufacturing environment
• Exposure to B&R Automation (preferred), Rockwell, Siemens, or Beckhoff PLC/HMI platforms
• Hands-on panel build or commissioning experience
• Familiarity with IEC 62061 or ISO 13849 safety standards
ADA Requirements:• Stand, walk, bend, squat, twist, reach or otherwise move frequently
• Occasional repetitive motion and grasping
• Occasional climbing to reach areas on machines or racks
• Lift, move or otherwise transfer up to 50 lbs. occasionally, >20 lbs. frequently
• Typically sits, grasps items or performs keyboarding for occasional operation of a computer
• Exposure to typical machine shop physical hazards which may require respiratory protection
