ABOUT THE ROLE

The Automation Engineer designs, develops, and supports automation solutions that improve Technology operations and reduce manual work. Responsibilities include building integrations, maintaining production automations, troubleshooting issues, and supporting Technology projects and acquisitions. The Automation Engineer works with Technology teams to identify automation opportunities, improve processes, maintain documentation and governance standards, and optimize existing solutions. This position emphasizes continuous improvement, operational efficiency, and the adoption of scalable automation technologies

HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Automation Development & Engineering
    • Design, develop, test, implement, and deploy automation solutions and API-based integrations between enterprise systems.
    • Develop PowerShell scripts and automation solutions using Microsoft Graph, Microsoft cloud technologies, Power Automate, Logic Apps, Azure Automation, and similar platforms.
    • Automate repetitive Technology administrative processes through reusable scripts, modules, functions, components, standards, and frameworks.
    • Troubleshoot, refactor, and optimize automation code to improve reliability, maintainability, and operational performance.
    • Implement appropriate logging, error handling, notifications, recovery processes, code reviews, and solution testing.
    • Develop and deliver automation solutions from the prioritized automation backlog in partnership with Technology teams to validate operational requirements.
  • Production Automation Support, Maintenance & Optimization
    • Monitor, maintain, and support production automations, scheduled processes, scripts, workflows, and integrations to ensure critical automated processes function as expected.
    • Investigate and troubleshoot failed or incomplete automation jobs, including API, authentication, permission, and integration failures.
    • Review automation logs, alerts, scheduled tasks, and process performance to identify issues and improvement opportunities.
    • Respond to production automation incidents and perform preventative maintenance on production automation solutions.
    • Update automations when connected applications, systems, or APIs change, including management of certificates, application registrations, API permissions, service accounts, and secrets.
    • Improve error handling, monitoring, and process efficiency by optimizing slow-running automations and retiring obsolete or redundant solutions.
  • Process Analysis, Requirements & Automation Planning
    • Partner with Technology teams to understand manual processes, operational challenges, and opportunities for automation.
    • Gather technical and business requirements and document current-state and future-state workflows, including process dependencies and exceptions.
    • Evaluate repetitive work and automation requests based on effort, risk, frequency, complexity, and business value to identify processes suitable for automation or standardization.
    • Maintain and prioritize the automation backlog.
    • Develop technical solution designs, implementation plans, development effort estimates, and expected operational benefits.
  • Enterprise Integrations, Acquisitions & Technology Projects
    • Develop, support, and troubleshoot integrations and data flows between enterprise Technology platforms.
    • Partner with system owners and Technology teams to define API, integration, automation, and technical design requirements.
    • Support automation requirements associated with Technology projects, acquisitions, deployments, and migrations.
    • Develop repeatable tools, processes, and automations for acquired-user onboarding, migrations, and account, group, license, software, and configuration management activities.
    • Develop tools and automation solutions to support Endpoint, Infrastructure, Service Desk, Cybersecurity, and Application teams with project execution.
    • Participate in project planning, implementation, and technical design sessions.
  • Reporting, Documentation & Automation Governance
    • Maintain technical documentation, process diagrams, support procedures, technical notes, and records for production automation solutions.
    • Document automation ownership, dependencies, schedules, credentials, recovery procedures, configuration changes, and implementation updates.
    • Maintain approved source code repositories, version control, version history, and change documentation.
    • Develop automated operational reports and dashboards to report on automation performance, failures, adoption, and operational value.
    • Establish and maintain automation development standards and ensure solutions comply with Technology security and change-management requirements.
  • Continuous Improvement, Innovation & Automation Strategy
    • Research and evaluate new automation, AI, and emerging technologies to improve Technology operations and scalable processes.
    • Identify opportunities to replace manual processes with self-service capabilities and improve existing Technology workflows.
    • Identify opportunities to consolidate overlapping scripts, tools, and automation solutions.
    • Develop proofs of concept for high-value automation opportunities.
    • Share automation capabilities, standards, and best practices with Technology teams to promote an automation-first mindset.
HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field preferred
  • 6+ years of related Information Technology experience, including at least 2-3 years of hands-on experience developing automation, scripting, integrations, or workflow solutions
  • Strong PowerShell and scripting expertise
  • Experience with API integrations and workflow automation Familiarity with cloud and enterprise systems


The salary range for this position is $92,200 to $115,200 annually. This salary range is the range we believe is the anticipated range of possible base compensation at the timing of the posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the anticipated salary range for the position. Based on the position status, employees may be eligible for discretionary bonuses and a full benefit package including medical, dental and vision coverage and flexible spending account options and voluntary insurances. We have paid time off, flex-time schedules, remote work options and a 401k plan and employee perk programs.
