General Responsibility:
Serve as an attorney representing SLED working in SLED's Office of General Counsel. Perform all necessary and assigned legal tasks and responsibilities to support SLED and SLED's Office of General Counsel.

Specific Duties:
  • Advise and represent SLED and SLED personnel on a variety of legal matters, including e-discovery, extraditions, and compliance with South Carolina's FOIA.
  • Perform professional legal research into criminal justice issues and prepare legal analysis, responses, briefs, guidance, and other legal documents.
  • Collaborate with other state, local, and federal law enforcement agencies and prosecutors as needed.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested or assigned by the Chief of SLED or SLED's General Counsel.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school and experience as a practicing attorney.
  • Must possess excellent writing and communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Must possess the ability to provide competent legal guidance and advice on the application of state and federal laws, regulations, and policies that affect SLED and SLED personnel.
  • Must reside or be willing to relocate to within 50 miles of SLED Headquarters.
