This position handles litigation and appeals involving Medicaid and other programs of public assistance in the Office of Administrative Hearings and State superior and appellate courts. The types of litigation that are handled by this position include defending actions brought by Medicaid recipients and applicant challenging decisions related to services and eligibility. This position serves as attorney for the State when convicted criminals appeal from judgments entered pursuant to trial or engages in other post-conviction practice, including motions for appropriate relief, stay of sentence and writ of supersedeas.

**Some travel, including some occasional overnight stays are required**

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Management Preferences:
  • Experience with litigation including legal drafting, discovery and motions drafting and practice, preparing exhibits for trial.
  • Experience practicing before the Office of Administrative Hearings or other administrative tribunals.
  • Knowledge of Medicaid and other public assistance programs.

Licensed to practice law by the North Carolina State Bar and one year of professional legal experience. NOTE: GS 114-2 and 114-6 make it the duty of the Attorney General of NC to represent the State of North Carolina in all litigation unless another statute specifically states otherwise.
