Attending Veterinarian (Licensed) | Clinvet NY | Waverly, NY
Position Overview
The Attending Veterinarian oversees the Animal Care and Use Program at Clinvet NY, ensuring animal welfare, regulatory compliance, veterinary care, and adherence to IACUC, QMS, and study requirements. This role provides veterinary and operational leadership for animal care, facility operations, staff training, and the resources needed to support clinical research activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Animal Care and Use Program and provide overall veterinary leadership for animal welfare, humane care, ethical animal use, and program effectiveness.
- Provide veterinary and clinical oversight of animal health, care, housing, monitoring, treatment, and overall well-being.
- Lead compliance and quality initiatives to ensure adherence to IACUC requirements, study protocols, SOPs, the Quality Management System, and applicable regulatory standards.
- Oversee animal facility operations and resources, ensuring appropriate staffing, animal availability, facility readiness, biosecurity, and support for research study timelines.
- Lead and develop animal care and veterinary personnel, including training, competency, performance expectations, resource allocation, and continuous improvement.
- Partner with cross-functional leadership across Research Operations, Quality Assurance, Compliance, and study teams to resolve issues, support audits and inspections, and ensure effective delivery of the Animal Care and Use Program.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
- Current and valid New York State Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) License and DVM degree from an accredited veterinary program.
- Minimum of 3years of related experience in veterinary care, animal care and use, clinical or preclinical research, animal facility operations, or a regulated research environment.
- Demonstrated experience leading animal care activities, animal welfare practices, facility operations, staff, and training.
- Experience identifying compliance risks and supporting corrective actions, audits, inspections, or other regulatory requirements.
Preferred:
- Additional training or experience in laboratory animal science, animal welfare, IACUC, GLP/GCP, QMS, biosafety, occupational health and safety, or management, with demonstrated experience leading staff in a veterinary, animal research, CRO, preclinical, clinical, or regulated life sciences environment.
- Experience supporting animal care and use compliance, including AAALAC, USDA, IACUC, New York State, sponsor, Quality Assurance, regulatory inspections, audits, and related requirements.

- Oversee the Animal Care and Use Program, ensuring animal welfare, ethical animal use, study readiness, and compliance.
- Provide veterinary oversight of animal health, welfare, clinical care, and veterinary services.
- Manage animal facility operations, including housing, sanitation, quarantine/isolation, resources, and study readiness.
- Ensure regulatory and quality compliance with IACUC, QMS, GLP/GCP, SOPs, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Lead and develop staff, including training, performance management, and maintaining a strong quality-focused team.
- Manage resources and operational priorities to support research timelines, budgets, and effective service delivery.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
- Effective verbal and written communication and the ability to read, review, and maintain professional, veterinary, research, animal care, and compliance documentation.
- Regular computer use for documentation, communication, reporting, training, and operational management.
- Frequent movement between office, laboratory, animal care, and facility areas, including standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
- Ability to safely handle or maneuver animals, equipment, cages, supplies, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds, as required by the position and site procedures.
- Ability to work an eight-hour shift and safely use applicable equipment, including ladders, carts, shelving, and cage systems, when trained and authorized.
- Compliance with PPE, occupational health, biosafety, animal welfare, and site safety requirements, including maintaining fitness for duty while performing job responsibilities.
Compensation & Benefits
