SALARY: Range 44 ($39.35 - $47.88/hr)

Under the direction of the High School Principal, provide technical services and information for the prevention, recognition, evaluation, management, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries: administer preventive or rehabilitative treatment to students and athletes engaged in various school sports; provide information, in-service and guidance to coaches and faculty. The position requires flexible scheduling of work hours to accommodate athletic events.
Minimum Qualifications Required to Apply

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: (Screening Criteria) Any combination equivalent to: a bachelor's degree in physical therapy, athletic training, physical education, biology or related field and two years apprenticeship in athletic training and clinical experience.
LICENSE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: (Screening Criteria) Valid California driver's license; certification as Athletic Trainer by the National Athletic Trainers' Association or the American Athlete Trainers' Association; valid CPR and Standard First Aid Certificate issued by an authorized agency.
Essential Duties

Provide technical services and information for the prevention, recognition, evaluation, management, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries; administer first aid to injured athletes and physical education students; administer conditioning and rehabilitation therapy by use of ultrasound, massage, heat, cold, hydro-whirlpool and other modalities; coordinate with coaches to establish and implement a conditioning program for athletes designed to prevent and minimize injuries; provide recognition and evaluation of athletic injuries; develop appropriate management, treatment and disposition of athletic injuries; develop exercise rehabilitation and therapy programs for specific injuries; cooperate and coordinate with physicians regarding operations, rehabilitation, therapeutic devices and equipment and the fitting of braces, guards and other devices; refer athletes to physicians or the hospital; assist with physical examinations and physical fitness screening; provide coverage at practices and during school hours and attend athletic events as assigned and render emergency first aid and other treatment in the event of injury; apply protective or injury-prevention devices and braces; tape ankles, knees, wrists, elbows, shoulders and ribs of athletes; develop and conduct athletic presentations, clinics and workshops for the coaching staff, faculty, athletes and parents on proper diet and the care and prevention of athletic injuries; advise concerning equipment purchases; fit and monitor the fitting of protective equipment for injury prevention and safety; operate various modalities for injury treatment and rehabilitation, including ultrasound and electrical stimulation equipment, hydrocollator, hydrotherapy, skinfold calipers, grip-strength dynamometer and other medical equipment used to accurately interpret and treat physical symptoms; operate a motor vehicle; coordinate the maintenance of the equipment in the training room; clean, disinfect and maintain equipment in the training room; notify appropriate personnel of needed repairs; inventory, requisition and store training room supplies and equipment; maintain related budget records; establish and maintain accurate records of athletes for eligibility based on physical examinations; maintain accurate and detailed records and reports concerning accidents, injuries, treatments, progress and physician referrals.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities / Working Conditions

Principles of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, nutrition, diet, CPR and first aid; diagnostic signs and symptoms and related treatment of various athletic injuries; principles and techniques of conditioning; emergency medical procedures; physical fitness, hygiene and safety procedures related to athletic programs; various types of therapeutic treatments, equipment and conditioning programs; operation and application of various physical therapy and treatment modalities; safety and protective equipment used in sports; disinfectant techniques; taping, bandaging and physical therapy techniques; policies and objectives of assigned program and activities; record-keeping techniques; correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary; applicable sections of State Education Code and other applicable laws; technical aspects of field of specialty; interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy; inventory methods and practices.
