Under the direction of the Director of Nursing, the Assistant Director or Nursing assists with overseeing the nursing staff and overall nursing operations of the hospital. The Assistant Director of Nursing provides clinical leadership, teaching, and supervision for nursing managers and, at times, frontline staff. This position assists with coordinated delivery of patient care in accordance with the established standards of care, mental health practices and hospital policies, goals, and objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Organize, direct, and control staffing schedules, daily assignments, acuity reports, and safe and efficient use of staff resources.
- Assign duties based on staff competency and patient acuity.
- Provide direct nursing care in conformance with accepted standards of nursing care practice.
- Provide guidance, training, and monitoring of staff performance and conduct.
- Provide intercommunication between unit, department, and hospital staff.
- Assist in the evaluation, monitoring, and development of quality patient care activity schedules.
- Attend and participate in Nursing Leadership, Nursing, and other hospital meetings/committees as needed.
- Participate in developing and maintaining unit, departmental, and hospital standards of excellence through problem solving, use of employee evaluations, disciplinary action, committee involvement, and self-directed growth and development.
- Work with team to identify needs and provide/schedule educational opportunities.
- Review and/or complete incident reports, Infection Control Reports, Patient Advocate Reports, Sentinel Events, and employees' Performance Appraisals to assess quality.
- Maintain patient rights and hospital policies.
- Review charts to ensure appropriate patient/family forms are signed.
- Participate in policy and procedure development and review.
- Evaluate behavior management approaches to include utilization of least restrictive measures, appropriate documentation, and evaluation of specific patient behavioral interventions.
- Develop and participate in mechanisms that support the recruitment, retention, and ongoing education of nursing staff.
- Participate and coordinate compliance in all surveys related to accreditation and licensure; act as the accountable representative for nursing services.

Qualifications Education: Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
Experience: Three (3) years' experience as a registered nurse required, preferably in a psychiatric health care facility, and five (5) years' RN experience preferred. Supervisor and managerial experience preferred.
Licensure/Certification: Currently licensed to practice by the Illinois State Board of Nursing. Successful completion of CPR certification, age-specific training and the current patient aggression management training, including appropriate use of Seclusion and Restraint, within 90 days of employment. Must pass a medication administration exam. Must have a valid driver's license.
