About The Role
HUB International is seeking a dynamic and experienced Associate Vice President, Employee Benefits to join our growing practice. This is a senior-level role for a seasoned benefits professional who thrives on building meaningful client relationships, driving business development, and delivering strategic value to a diverse portfolio of employer clients. The AVP will play a key role in expanding HUB's market presence while ensuring the highest standards of service and consultative advice.

What You’ll Do

Client Relationship Management

  • Serve as the primary strategic advisor and relationship owner for a portfolio of mid-to-large employer clients across group benefits, and related programs.

  • Lead client stewardship activities including annual plan reviews, renewals, benchmarking, and strategic planning sessions.

  • Proactively identify client needs and opportunities to enhance program design, reduce costs, and improve employee outcomes.

  • Ensure an exceptional client experience through responsive service, proactive communication, and thought leadership.

  • Collaborate with internal specialists (actuarial, compliance, wellness, pension) to deliver integrated, holistic advisory solutions.

Sales & Business Development

  • Identify, pursue, and close new business opportunities aligned with HUB's growth strategy in the Employee Benefits space.

  • Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of prospective clients through networking, referrals, industry events, and targeted outreach.

  • Lead the preparation and delivery of compelling proposals, RFP responses, and finalist presentations.

  • Build and leverage relationships with insurers, advisors, and centres of influence to generate new business opportunities.

  • Participate in HUB's regional and national sales initiatives and contribute to overall practice growth targets.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Mentor and support junior team members, contributing to a culture of professional development and high performance.

  • Collaborate with leadership on practice strategy, market positioning, and service delivery improvements.

  • Represent HUB at industry conferences, associations, and community events to enhance brand visibility and thought leadership.

What You’ll Need for Success

Experience

  • Minimum 12 years of progressive experience in Employee Benefits consulting, brokerage, or group insurance.

  • Demonstrated track record of managing complex client relationships and achieving sales targets in a competitive market.

  • Experience working with diverse employer segments across both public and private sector organizations is an asset.


Credentials & Education

  • Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) designation is preferred.

  • Must hold a valid provincial insurance license (Life & Accident and Sickness) or be committed to obtaining licensure within the first 6 months of employment.

  • Post-secondary degree in Business, Human Resources, Finance, or a related field preferred.

  • Additional designations (e.g., actuarial credentials) are considered strong assets.


Skills & Competencies

  • Deep knowledge of group benefits products, all aspects of benefit plan design including flex, underwriting/funding, and the insurer market.

  • Experience developing and implementing effective sales strategies

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills – written and verbal – with the ability to engage at the executive level.

  • Commercially minded with a demonstrated ability to identify opportunities and convert them into results.

  • Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple client priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and understanding various insurer platforms.
