Job Summary This position serves as a strategic thought partner to the Provost and provides administrative oversight for academic curriculum of the institution, leadership to the faculty, and management of the processes through which teaching is conducted and administered at Union. Also provides leadership for research involving human subjects.
Essential Job Duties - Teach 6 hours per calendar year.
- Collaborate with the Provost in maintaining an atmosphere of teamwork and mutual goal setting among academic leadership.
- Work with deans and program directors to develop the academic calendar (undergraduate, graduate, 8-week accelerated).
- Collaborate with the Provost in compiling internal and external reports.
- Develop and manage the budget for the Office of the Associate Provost and areas under its oversight.
- Serve as chair of the University's IRB.
- Oversee compliance of institutional IRB and federal regulatory policies and procedures regarding human subject research.
- Provide training and learning opportunities for primary investigators and research advisors regarding rights and welfare of human research participants.
- Promote and provide administrative oversight for faculty pursuit of external grant opportunities.
- Provide administrative oversight for the Academic Center and supervise the Registrar.
- Provide leadership for the Library and supervise the Director for Library Services.
- Provide leadership to the University Honors Program, and supervision of the Director of the Honors Community.
- Advance the University's study abroad initiatives and supervise the Director for Study Abroad.
- Provide leadership and supervision to employees reporting to the Associate Provost, including setting expectations, providing guidance and support, encouraging professional development, and evaluating performance.
- Assist in efforts to promote dual enrollment partnerships and maintain dual enrollment quality.
- Assist in efforts to support faculty advising.
- Collaborate with and serve as liaison for the Council of Chairs.
- Oversee the academic student grievance process.
- Oversee the curriculum approval process in collaboration with the University Curriculum Committee.
- Other duties as assigned by the Provost.
Other Job Duties - Serve on the Academic Deans Council, Council of Chairs, University Curriculum Committee, and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee.
- Support the Director for Institutional Effectiveness as needed.
Required Qualifications Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in a related field is required; an earned doctorate is preferred, and at least five years of experience that includes a record of teaching excellence, service, and scholarship commensurate with that of a tenured professor.
Preferred Qualifications Preference will be given to applicants who possess significant experience at the level of dean or above, including experience in the development and administration of curriculum, budget, personnel, strategic planning, and the use of technology in higher education.
